Job Description:  
The Applications Engineer coordinates with the outside sales team to promote, estimate, and quote various product lines represented by BCS.
Minimum Duties and Responsibilities:  
Pre-Design Responsibilities

  • Basic HVAC knowledge and understanding of all BCS product lines.
  • Creates pre-job in Spectrum for time keeping and creates pre-job folder with correct templates.
  • Keeps folder structure organized and updated.
  • Selects and estimates HVAC equipment & other miscellaneous items from our product lines with Outside Sales.
  • Provide timely, technical and project related support and communication to Outside Sales and other BCS departments.
  • Generates basic controls layout, piping layouts, controls schematics and control sequences.
  • Generates equipment schedules and equipment specifications.
  • Identify and position to any possible spec opportunities to create stronger package on bid day.
Job Bid Responsibilities
  • Job takeoff with review of job plans, specifications, and work with Outside Sales to address any discrepancies.
  • Attends pre-bid walk throughs with SE assigned on project (when necessary).
  • Generate equipment bid pricing and scope to meet bid timeline.
  • Generate equipment approval requests.
Coordinate Product and Equipment Orders
  • Supports Sales Admin with gathering of required documentation for job setup.
  • Complete job hand-off forms and attend job hand off meetings.
  • Creates jobs folder with correct templates once project is won and submittal is requested.
  • Creates submittals for various equipment.
  • Completes factory control configurations.
  • Order entry for various product lines.
  • Support Operations with design questions post hand-off.
  • Assists Outside Sales with change orders pricing requests.
Training and Development
  • Studies literature and attends training seminars to keep current in products, processes, and materials.
  • Must be familiar with competitor’s product lines and how BCS products meet or exceed specification.
  • Create any required tools (as assigned) to improve processes.
  • Assist with training and developing Equipment Application Engineer interns.

Minimum Experience and Requirements:  
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related equivalent experience.

Skills and Experience:  

  • 1-3 years of experience in engineering systems or related field preferred
  • Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and create and interpret graphs
  • Possesses a strong ability in problem solving
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specification preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • Valid driver license

Other Requirements:  

  • Requires occasional travel to and from job sites, and trainings, primarily within the local area and Kansas
  • Requires occasional overnight stays


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing, walking, bending, squatting or twisting on a regular basis. May require the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or reach with hands and arms occasionally. Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and may be required to carry, lift, move or push 100 or more pounds on an occasional basis. Must be able to talk and listen to others. Frequently uses hands or fingers to handle of feel. Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen through the day. Requires ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

  • This position regularly works in an office setting but occasionally visits job sites in all types of indoor and outdoor conditions including near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, extreme heat, cold and humidity. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic fumes or chemicals. Regular noise levels range from minimal to moderate but may be very loud when visiting job sites.
  • Most of the job duties require the employee to be working with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
