What is an appliance consultant?

An Appliance Consultant is a professional who helps customers choose the right household or commercial appliances based on their needs, preferences, and budget. They are knowledgeable about various brands, models, and technologies for appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, and more. Their role often includes advising on product features, energy efficiency, installation requirements, and maintenance. Appliance Consultants typically work in retail stores, showrooms, or directly for manufacturers. Their main goal is to ensure that customers make informed decisions when purchasing appliances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an appliance consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Appliance Consultant, you need a solid understanding of home appliances, sales techniques, and product specifications, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and vendor product catalogs is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to build rapport with customers help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively matching customers with the right products, driving sales, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

How does an appliance consultant typically collaborate with other departments to support customers and sales goals?

As an Appliance Consultant, you regularly work with sales teams, customer service representatives, and technical support staff to ensure clients receive accurate information and excellent service. Collaboration often involves coordinating product demonstrations, resolving customer inquiries, and providing feedback on popular appliances or customer preferences. You'll also participate in training sessions with manufacturers or suppliers to stay updated on new products and technologies. This cross-functional teamwork enhances your ability to recommend the best solutions and contributes to the company's overall sales performance.

Job description

Cost Plus Appliance & Design

Casper, Wyoming

Now Hiring: Appliance Sales Consultant

Full-Time  |  Salaried  |  Casper, WY

Who We Are

Cost Plus Appliance & Design is an independent appliance retailer serving Casper and Cody, Wyoming. We are not a big box store. We are a relationship-driven business built on expertise, personalized service, and a genuine commitment to our clients. Our team works closely with homeowners, general contractors, and property managers to design and deliver curated appliance packages for new construction and renovation projects. We also operate a cabinet design division and an in-house appliance repair department, making us a comprehensive resource for our clients throughout the life of their home.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Appliance Sales Consultant to join our Casper showroom. This is a consultative sales role — not a transactional one. You will guide clients through the appliance selection process, build lasting professional relationships, and manage multiple active projects at once. If you take pride in your work, follow through on your commitments, and enjoy helping people make confident decisions, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

•    Sell individual appliances and complete kitchen and laundry packages tailored to each client's needs and budget

•    Build and maintain professional relationships with homeowners, general contractors, and property managers

•    Collaborate with construction and renovation clients on appliance specifications, sizing, utility requirements, and cabinet coordination

•    Manage multiple active projects simultaneously, providing clear and timely communication throughout the sales and construction process

•    Enter and maintain accurate orders in our Point of Sale system — correct models, pricing, accessories, and delivery details

•    Serve as the client's primary point of contact from initial sale through final installation

•    Maintain a clean, organized, and well-presented showroom floor

What We're Looking For

•    2 or more years of sales experience, preferably in a consultative or project-based environment

•    Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities without error

•    Strong written and verbal communication skills

•    Proficiency with Windows 11, Google Suite (Gmail and Google Calendar), Microsoft Office, and general internet safety practices

•    Experience in residential construction, building trades, or a related field is a plus — but we will train the right person

•    A professional, client-first attitude and a genuine desire to do the job right

What We Offer

•    Competitive salaried compensation based on experience

•    A stable, established business with a strong reputation in the Wyoming market

•    A focused, non-corporate work environment where your contributions are visible and valued

•    Product training provided — we invest in our team

•    Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

•    Two Saturdays per month, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

How to Apply

We encourage interested candidates to reach out directly. Please submit a resume and a brief introduction telling us why this role is a good fit for you.
