Description
The Product Design Engineer role will give you direct responsibility over the mechanical design of parts, assemblies and modules within Apple Vision products and own the analysis, assembly and reliability of these parts. This role spans the product design cycle from concept development, prototyping and testing, to collaborating with vendors to bring the design to life. You will engage in frequent multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams like Industrial Design, Project Management, Manufacturing, EE, Display, Camera, Antenna, Battery, Softgoods, Human Engineering, Human Factors, Safety and more.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in mechanical engineering or similar field
Fluent in Unigraphics NX including surfacing tools, statistical software (JMP), MacOS
Experience working through entire product cycle including shipping product experience
Experience leading teams through product development cycle from concept development to production bring up.
Consumer electronics knowledge in a majority of these disciplines: industrial design, optics and lenses, cameras, sensors, displays, PCBs and flexes, silicon, antennas, batteries, thermals, mechanisms
Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities, specifically in high-volume mass production
Experience designing wearable consumer electronics for fit, comfort & ergonomics
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering
5-10+ years of hands-on, consumer electronics product design experience
Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills, experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes based on engineering requirements
Experience working in technical project groups in a professional environment
Proficiency in 3D CAD (any modeling package, NX preferred)
Proficiency in practical application of GD&T techniques and creating 2D drawings
Proficiency in tolerance analyses with statistical techniques
Practical experience working with external manufacturing vendors (DFM/DFA, FAI/CPK dimensional reports)
Thorough knowledge of engineering materials, understanding of property tradeoffs and interpreting FEA results
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including emails, preparing slide presentations, and presenting technical concepts to multi-disciplinary teams
Creative problem solving, with experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation
Detail orientated and capable of handling multiple assignments at once
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
