Description
As Engineering Program Manager, Capacity Management and Operations, you will lead the strategic roadmap for Apple's infrastructure. This role is at the intersection of Finance, Engineering, and Product, serving as the primary architect of our resource roadmap. Partnering closely with SREs and Platform teams, you will translate product growth into hardware requirements and executive-level financial strategy and ensure our global infrastructure scales ahead of demand while maintaining efficiency.","responsibilities":"Capacity Governance: Drive the end-to-end "Supply vs. Demand" equation for cloud infrastructure. Lead the monthly consolidation of infrastructure forecasts across all platforms.
Infrastructure Efficiency: Partner closely with SREs to understand Cloud FinOps initiatives. Beyond just tracking spend, identify underutilized resources, optimize instance types, and advocate for architectural changes to significantly optimize unit costs and improve infrastructure efficiency.
Peak Demand & Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement contingency models for events or major product launches. Ensure service uptime by strategically managing buffer capacity and identifying potential supply chain or regional pinch points in infrastructure provisioning.
Automation & Tooling Roadmap: Collaborate with Data Engineering to move away from manual processes. Advocate for and help design automated workflows that provide real-time visibility into "burn rates" and capacity buffers, enhancing forecasting accuracy and efficiency.
Executive Influence: Synthesize vast datasets and complex technical telemetry into high-signal narratives and actionable insights for VPs and Directors. Possess the "diplomatic challenger" mindset-the ability to strategically justify large capex while also pushing back on engineering over-provisioning to maintain fiscal discipline.
Onboarding & Metadata Management: Serve as the "Front Door" for new services and platforms. Ensure they are integrated into forecasting tools with correct cost-attribution, scaling logic, and metadata from day one, enabling accurate financial tracking and planning.
Consistently uphold and champion Apple's core principles in all aspects of work, fostering a culture of integrity, innovation, and excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to apply strategic planning principles such as the "70% Rule" (planning for 70-80% utilization to absorb market shocks) and identifying "Skill Shadows" or quantitative gaps in infrastructure and resource planning.
Communication: Strong executive presence with the ability to translate complex technical telemetry and operational data into clear, concise financial ROI and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of progressive experience in Engineering Program Management (EPM), Infrastructure Planning, or Cloud Infrastructure Financial Operations, preferably within a large-scale, high-growth technology environment.
Technical Breadth: Strong understanding of architecture, and the nuances between compute, storage, and egress costs across various cloud providers and/or private cloud environments.
Data Proficiency: Mastery of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) and a strong preference for SQL proficiency to query infrastructure telemetry and financial data directly.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field or related industry experience.
