Job description

Senior Appian Developer
Astor & Sanders Corporation (Astor) is an award-winning IT solutions provider headquartered in McLean, VA seeking a Senior Appian Developer. This is a full-time and hybrid position in the DMV area.
The Senior Appian Developer is responsible for hands-on Appian application development, directing interdisciplinary technical teams, and ensuring robust system functionality. They collaborate with architects, business analysts, and project managers to design and deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable Appian-based applications. This role demands in-depth knowledge of Appian design objects, integrations, process models, and best practices.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Appian applications, including interfaces, process flows, records, reports, and integrations.
  • Lead a team of developers through the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and guide the team in following best practices and coding standards.
  • Implement and oversee DevSecOps practices to automate testing, security scans, and deployment pipelines.
  • Provide high-level architectural expertise and ensure solutions adhere to DOL's enterprise architecture and relevant compliance (FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Collaborate with the business analyst and scrum master to refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and ensure feasible development timelines.
  • Coordinate security assessments, prepare documentation for audits, and resolve vulnerabilities within established timelines.

Requirements
  • At least 6 years of hands-on experience in Appian development.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (4 additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted).
  • Minimum of 5 years leading developer teams in agile software delivery.
  • Proven record delivering complex Appian solutions across multi-region environments for 200+ users.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing relational databases (e.g., Oracle) for data modeling and querying in Appian projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Appian platform objects (SAIL interfaces, process models, sites, records, reports).
  • Ability to architect solutions for both front-end and back-end functions, including APIs and data integrations.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex technical issues related to performance, security, and configuration.
  • Proficient with agile methodologies and DevSecOps automation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to mentor junior developers and liaise with business stakeholders.
  • Appian Senior Developer Certification (required).
  • SCRUM Master Certification (preferred).

The anticipated salary range for this position is $140,000-$180,000 annually. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, candidate skills and education, geographical location, certifications, and business needs, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range. This salary range represents Astor's good-faith estimate of compensation for the position at the time of posting.
