Job description

The Merchant, Women’s Apparel is responsible for executing merchandising strategies that drive sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction across the women’s apparel business. This role partners closely with Design, Product Development, Planning, and Marketing to build compelling assortments that reflect BYLT’s brand positioning and meet the evolving needs of the customer.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the women’s apparel market, consumer trends, and merchandising fundamentals. This individual is analytical, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and passionate about creating exceptional product assortments that deliver business results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Merchandising Strategy

  • Execute seasonal merchandising strategies that support BYLT’s business objectives and customer needs
  • Build and manage assortments that drive sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity
  • Analyze customer, market, and competitive trends to identify opportunities within the category
  • Partner with Design and Product Development throughout the product creation process, providing input on product concepts, prototypes, and line development
  • Participate in assortment reviews and milestone meetings, ensuring product offerings align with category objectives and strategies

Assortment Planning

  • Support the development of assortment architecture across all product categories
  • Recommend product mix, pricing, color assortment, size distribution, and lifecycle management based on customer demand and business goals
  • Review product performance throughout the season and recommend assortment adjustments to optimize sales and inventory productivity
  • Collaborate with Planning and Allocation teams to ensure assortments are aligned with inventory and financial objectives

Business Performance

  • Manage category performance by monitoring sales, margin, inventory, and key business metrics
  • Analyze weekly and seasonal performance to identify trends, opportunities, and risks
  • Develop recommendations to improve sales, profitability, and inventory efficiency
  • Partner with Planning to support forecasting, inventory management, and open-to-buy decisions

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, Fashion, or a related field
  • 4–7 years of merchandising experience in apparel
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of the apparel product lifecycle, merchandising calendar, and sourcing timelines
  • Experience developing seasonal assortments and managing category performance
  • Ability to interpret sales data and translate insights into actionable merchandising recommendations
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience with merchandising, planning, or ERP systems is a plus
