FacultyPosition Title:School of Nursing Applied Practice FacultyJob Family Group: AcademicJob Description Summary:The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a full-time faculty to support clinical education in the prelicensure nursing programs. This is a clinical track position; rank and salary are commensurate with experience. The applied practice faculty (APF) member will facilitate student learning and competency development through clinical hands- laboratory instruction (hands-on skill development, simulation) and hospital-based clinical teaching. This position will provide continuity of instruction for groups of students across both learning environments, ensuring integration and consistency between simulation, clinical learning, and formal competency assessment. The APF will advance student success by promoting safe, evidence-based nursing practice while fostering clinical judgment, professional behaviors, and confidence in practice.
The APF will also participate in service-related activities that support the school, and engage in clinical practice through the School of Nursing faculty practice plan.Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Teach in clinical skills and simulation laboratory nursing settings to include prebriefing, debriefing, evaluation of performance using competency-based rubrics, provide formative feedback and coaching, and collaborate with clinical laboratory operations staff to ensure efficient and safe learning environments.

  • Teaching in hospital-based settings to include supervision of students in direct patient care settings, plan and coordinate patient care experiences aligned with course and program competency outcomes, provide real-time observation and coaching to support safe, effective clinical practice; communicate and collaborate with clinical partners to foster academic-practice relationships; evaluate student performance in the clinical setting using standardized tools and narrative feedback.

  • Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation activities including simulation scenario development and refinement.

  • Participate in service-related activities (such as serving on committees/task forces, mentoring students, etc.) to support the mission of the school.

  • Engage in clinical practice through the KU School of Nursing Faculty Practice plan.

Required Qualifications

Education: Masters degree in nursing.

License:

  • Possess a registered nurse (RN) license from the Kansas State Board of Nursing (or be eligible for RN licensure in Kansas).

Work Experience

  • Three years of clinical practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience

  • Prior teaching experience in lab and clinical environments.

  • Experience in simulation-based education or facilitation.

  • Certification in simulation (CHSE) or nursing education (CNE)

  • Experience as a preceptor in a clinical environment.
