Are you eager to grow your career as a Civil Engineer and be a part of a team that is growing in Northern Indiana? This incredible opportunity offers you the chance to build a resilient engineering team in South Bend from the ground up, while being supported by the broad resources of Wightman. This position provides the opportunity to take the lead role on projects, with coaching and support from a dynamic team of engineers, and mentor new team members.

  • How to replace an old sewer with a new 30” pipe to support a large city’s growth for the next generations.
  • All the utilities, drainage, site layout, and material inspections for a new 23‑story hotel.
  • Take a scenic wooded lot and guide its development into a high‑end campground.
  • Figure out how to keep an electrical substation built in a floodplain, from flooding.
  • Guide the development of a large apartment complex, from concept to an open house.

Essential Functions
  • Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projects
  • Manage projects including client communications, public input and feedback, and internal support
  • Perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projects
  • Performs, trains, and provides guidance for site investigations, survey work, CAD work, and data collection
  • Prepares and reviews engineering designs and reports which includes design calculations and plan preparation
  • Performs, provides training for, and guides quality assurance, ensuring projects get carried out as designed and recommend modifications as needed
  • Ability to identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client and the ability to draft proposals and estimate fees
  • Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals
Required Skills & Behaviors
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in all work tasks
  • Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • Capable of working with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands‑on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Mentoring capability
Organizational Relationships
  • Reports to the Manager of Site Services
  • May have responsibility for multiple direct reports
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • PE licensure
  • 5+ years of experience managing site development and land transformation
  • 5+ years of experience in A/E/C industry
