Job description

The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for supporting and leading key aspects of the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and vendor communications. This position serves as a subject matter expert within the accounts payable team, supporting process improvements, assisting in the resolution of complex issues, and mentoring team members. The role also supports financial reporting accuracy and compliance with internal controls.

What You'll Do

  • Review, code, and process high-volume vendor invoices accurately and on time
  • Manage recurring payments, expense reimbursements, and check runs
  • Validate purchase orders, invoices, and payments to ensure compliance
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between invoices, purchase orders, and payments
  • Partner with internal departments and vendors to address and resolve issues
  • Support month-end close activities, including AP accruals and reconciliations
  • Monitor AP aging and follow up on outstanding items
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and audit requirements
  • Assist with documentation for internal and external audits
  • Drive process improvements to streamline AP operations
  • Stay current on tax rules, including sales/use tax, and audit requirements
  • Mentor and guide AP team members, providing training and support
  • Participate in cross-functional projects as a liaison between AP and other departments

  • Associate degree in Accounting or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in accounts payable or related accounting functions
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, AP processes, and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Google Suite; ERP system experience preferred
  • High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work additional hours during month-end or peak periods as needed
