Job description

Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly skilled, compliance-driven Maintenance Manager to oversee the installation, repair, and operational reliability of all plant machinery and facility infrastructure. The ideal candidate will balance technical engineering leadership with absolute mastery over food safety and workplace safety systems. You will be directly responsible for ensuring all maintenance activities are executed in strict accordance with SQF Edition standards, GMPs, and OSHA regulations, keeping our facility in a continuous state of audit-readiness for USDA-FSIS, federal, state, and local authorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • SQF & Quality Program Ownership: Serve as the maintenance champion for Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) compliance, specifically SQF standards. Maintain, document, and defend all maintenance-related SQF elements (e.g., equipment calibration, fabric integrity, and air/water quality testing) during annual verification audits.
  • Sanitary Maintenance & GMP Enforcement: Enforce strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) across the entire maintenance team. Implement and monitor programs for food-grade lubricant controls, tool reconciliation, temporary repair limitations, and sanitary welding protocols to eliminate physical, chemical, or allergen contamination risks.
  • OSHA & Workplace Safety Leadership: Champion a zero-incident safety culture by executing and enforcing all OSHA compliance programs. This includes strict oversight of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety/Arc Flash, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs for all technicians and outside contractors.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Ensure the facility continuously aligns with USDA-FSIS regulations, FDA mandates, and all state and local environmental/health department codes. Partner closely with Quality Assurance to resolve any regulatory non-compliance records (NRs) promptly.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) Management: Leverage a CMMS to build, schedule, and optimize a preventative and predictive maintenance program. Ensure all machinery, high-speed packaging lines, and utility systems (boilers, chillers, compressed air) are serviced to prevent breakdowns that threaten product safety or plant throughput.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, train, and manage a 24/7 technical team. Ensure all technicians receive ongoing, documented training regarding food safety GMPs and OSHA technical standards.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Industrial Management, or equivalent technical trade credentials combined with extensive food industry leadership experience.
Technical & Regulatory Requirements
  • 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience specifically within a USDA or FDA-regulated food manufacturing plant (meat, poultry, dairy, or high-risk ready-to-eat processing preferred).
  • Expert Knowledge of SQF Codes: Direct experience building and defending maintenance programs during successful SQF, BRC, or equivalent GFSI audits. (SQF Practitioner certification is a major plus).
  • Strong OSHA Competency: Proven track record of managing industrial safety programs and maintaining compliance records. OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred.
  • Deep practical knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, and Sanitary Equipment Design principles.
  • Advanced technical troubleshooting skills in PLC automation, robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and facility utilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Must be able to navigate a fast-paced production floor, including exposure to high noise levels, wet/washdown sanitation conditions, and extreme temperature zones (freezers and hot processing areas).
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, navigate ladders/catwalks, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to maintain on-call availability to support alternative shifts during critical equipment failures or major facility emergencies.
  • Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.
  • Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.
  • Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.
  • Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.

ANIMAL WELFARE COMMITMENT:
  • Rose Acre Farms is fully committed to providing our animals with a safe and healthy environment, free from abuse and treated humanely in all aspects.
  • All team members are obligated by moral duty, Rose Acre Farms requirement (refer to Animal Abuse Policy in Rose Acre Farms Handbook), and legal obligation to uphold the strictest animal welfare structured environment and are obligated to report any incidents of abuse, neglect, or breach of biosecurity for the health and welfare of our animals.

NON-SMOKING WORKPLACE:
  • No smoking allowed in workplace, break areas, or on any company property.
  • No smoking in company provided vehicles.
