Job Description
Position Objective:
To provide high-quality, high-volume spay-and-neuter surgeries and other routine services through the mobile clinic
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
โ€ข Promote the humane care and treatment of animals
โ€ข Perform surgical sterilizations
โ€ข Oversee and perform surgical monitoring, the administration of pre-anesthetic and anesthetic drugs, and post-surgical monitoring through discharge
โ€ข Administer vaccines to clinic patients
โ€ข Comply with the applicable state and federal laws established by the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
Qualifications
โ€ข Degree in veterinary medicine from an accredited university of veterinary medicine
โ€ข Current Virginia veterinary license
โ€ข Three years' experience practicing veterinary medicine
โ€ข Experience in animal shelter medicine, supervision, and program responsibility
โ€ข Experience with high-volume spay-and-neuter surgeries
โ€ข Possession of or ability to obtain a DEA controlled-substance registration
โ€ข Proven effective organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
โ€ข Willingness and ability to travel to various clinic stops throughout Hampton Roads
โ€ข Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
โ€ข Commitment to the objectives of the organization
Additional Information
PETA's Mobile Clinics Division (MCD) spays and neuters hundreds of companion animals every week in Southeastern Virginia in three state-of-the-art mobile clinics. Each clinic is capable of spaying and neutering up to 28 animals per day. The staff consists of a licensed veterinarian, a licensed veterinary technician, a veterinary assistant, and an assistant who checks in each animal. The clinics operate an average of six days a week and travel from Virginia's Eastern Shore to Gloucester and from the Border Station in Chesapeake, Virginia, to Emporia and locations in between.
