What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Anglican priest, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Anglican priest, you need a strong background in theology, pastoral care, and liturgical practice, often supported by a degree in divinity or theology and ordination by the church. Familiarity with church management systems, liturgical texts, and ongoing training or certifications in pastoral counseling are typically required. Compassion, active listening, and strong communication skills help build trust and guide parishioners through spiritual and life challenges. These skills and qualifications are crucial for fostering a supportive church community and effectively leading worship and pastoral initiatives.

What are some common challenges faced by an Anglican priest in their daily ministry?

Anglican priests often balance multiple responsibilities, including leading worship services, providing pastoral care, and managing parish administration. A common challenge is effectively supporting a diverse congregation with varying spiritual and personal needs while also maintaining personal well-being. Priests may also navigate administrative duties, community outreach, and collaboration with lay leaders and church staff, which requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Building and sustaining community engagement, especially in changing social contexts, can also be a significant aspect of the role.

What are Anglicans?

Anglicans are members of the Anglican Communion, a worldwide family of churches with roots in the Church of England. Anglicanism blends elements of Catholic and Protestant traditions and emphasizes scripture, reason, and tradition. Anglicans worship using the Book of Common Prayer, value diverse theological perspectives, and are known for their inclusive approach to faith. The Anglican Communion is present in over 165 countries and is led spiritually by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Job description

Description

The Safeguarding & HR Administrative Assistant provides administrative support for all ministries at The Falls Church Anglican by assisting with the screening and training of our volunteers. Working at the direction of the Director of HR & Operations, the Safeguarding Coordinator will implement protection policies for children and vulnerable adults. TFCA affirms and complies with The Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic Policies for protection of children, and more can be read about that policy here. This is a part-time hybrid role where it can be done both in and out of the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Safeguarding Process Management:

Manage the safeguarding requirements as required by our Diocese, including the process to get all qualified volunteers across all ministries screened and trained appropriately. This includes tracking the progress of all volunteers, sending out all required forms and video trainings, as well as in-person session information. It also includes all logistics and planning for any in-person training, with the potential to be the trainer as well. Optimize the safeguarding process such that all requirements are met and completed in the most efficient way possible. This may involve implementing new technologies to help both TFCA's volunteers and internal staff navigate this well.

HR Administrative Support:

Support the Director of HR & Operations with drafting and posting job descriptions, along with managing the interview process for candidates. Additional support could include records management, onboarding, orientation, communication and compliance.

Other duties as assigned to support safeguarding, HR and operations.

Ministry Calling

Employees of The Falls Church Anglican come together to serve God, one another, our congregation, our community and our world. As disciples of Christ, our employees steward their responsibilities with care, demonstrating the fruits of the Spirit in their daily responsibilities. We offer a workplace focused on the excellence that glorifies God as we perform our work, both in readiness to do our daily tasks and in embracing and knowing how the Word of God applies as we serve. We also model grace in our interactions, in thankfulness to the grace we are given in Christ.

We do not require all employees to be Anglicans, but because of our essential identity as a community of faith in Jesus Christ, we require all employees to wholeheartedly believe and confess that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no one comes to the Father but by Him. As a community, we submit to the authority of the Holy Scriptures as the standard for Christian faith and life. We uphold the sanctity and dignity of human life, the creation of humankind in God's image as male and female, and the unchangeable standard of Christian marriage between one man and one woman as the only proper place for sexual intimacy and the basis of the family.

Within this context, we are committed to equality of treatment in hiring and in all employment conditions and opportunities.
