Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Analytics Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analytics Manager, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation expertise, leadership experience, and typically a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics platforms (such as Tableau, Power BI), programming languages (like SQL, Python, or R), and data management systems is essential, along with relevant certifications such as Google Analytics or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP). Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. How does an Analytics Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Responsibilities
  • Lead, delegate, and provide oversight for a cross-functional team of product analytics practitioners
  • Provide mentorship and management to 2-5 analytics architects (including conducting weekly 1:1s, providing coaching, writing performance reviews)
  • Report to the Director of Analytics, advising on staffing decisions, team development, and project scoping
  • Provide meaningful team leadership and strategic project guidance across 1-2 client projects
  • Audit, select, and recommend the best analytics tool stack to suit client needs (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, mParticle)
  • Partner with clients to set measurement and business goals and resolve issues to ensure the users' best interests
  • Develop and lead workshops with clients to understand their business goals and translate them into trackable outcomes within products
  • Use storytelling to present complex data in ways that are meaningful and actionable for our clients and teams
  • Build trust and credibility with clients through empathy and open communication

  • Advocate for analytics best practices with our clients and across our company
  • Provide internal and external thought leadership that promotes the analytics practice
  • Stay current on industry trends and the changing trajectory of the practice (e.g., tooling innovation, ethical and regulatory developments)

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional experience developing and executing analytics strategy and implementation within a digital agency or consulting environment
  • 3 -5+ years of experience managing team members, with a genuine passion and skill for developing talent and empowering teams to do their best work
  • Experience working in a breadth of analytics tools and platforms (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel, and Google Analytics), and can guide organizations in selecting the ideal tools for their needs
  • Effectively communicate and present complex data in meaningful and actionable ways to clients and multidisciplinary product teams (e.g. engineers and designers) to guide product-decisions
  • Strong business sensibilities and can effectively identify and translate high-level business objectives to reportable metrics
  • Experience creating analytics tracking specifications for web and/or mobile products that are being used in production
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior-level clients or stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teammates with various levels of experience and diverse areas of expertise
