Position Summary
The Writing and Literacy Specialist will help students improve literacy and writing skills, according to each student's individual needs. This position will emphasize reading comprehension and analytical writing for the developmental English courses.
This is a part-time position that will be located at either the main campus or Tech Center, depending on the needs of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
โ€ข To become familiar with the ENGL 101 curriculum, course syllabus, and Blackboard
โ€ข To be available during designated classes each semester
โ€ข To work closely with the instructor to ensure student needs are being met with focus on reading comprehension of texts and analytical writing skills
โ€ข To hold regularly scheduled one-on-one workshop sessions with students outside of class each week
โ€ข To record notes on each workshop session to provide the instructor
โ€ข To communicate bi-weekly with the instructor
Minimum Qualifications
Education
โ€ข Bachelor Arts degree in English or a closely related field
โ€ข Master's degree in English or Reading preferred.
โ€ข TESOL Certification preferred
Experience
โ€ข Tutoring or teaching experience
โ€ข Experience teaching reading preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
โ€ข Excellent interpersonal communication skills
โ€ข Strong writing and reading skills
โ€ข Organization and time-management skills
This is a continuous job posting to establish a qualified pool of adjuncts on an as needed basis semester to semester.
Pay scale commensurate with degree level.
