Job Summary: A Vault Teller plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and security of our Bozeman branch. In addition to the responsibilities of a Bank Teller, such as handling customer transactions and maintaining accurate records, they are responsible for managing the branch's cash reserves.

Primary Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Vault Teller is to maintain adequate cash and coin supply for the bank and to provide courteous, professional, quality service to customers of American Bank and other tellers. The Vault Teller should be able to perform all duties and activities performed by a Teller. The primary duties of the Vault Teller are:

  • Represent American Bank to customers and staff in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Provide prompt, efficient and accurate service in processing all transactions.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, delivering exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive customer caller experience.
  • Maintain adequate cash and coin supply for the bank including processing coin in a timely manner.
  • Act as Lead Teller providing guidance to other staff.
  • Buy, sell, and verify money transactions to and from tellers.
  • Verify and prepare currency and coin Federal Reserve shipments. This requires the ability to lift rolled or bagged coin.
  • Receive checks and cash for deposit to savings and checking accounts, verify deposit amounts, examine checks for endorsement and negotiability, and enter transactions into bank records via an online teller terminal.
  • Cash checks and pay money from savings and checking accounts upon verification of signatures and customer account balances. Inspect all checks, bonds, money orders, savings withdrawals, etc. to determine their negotiability.
  • Accept loan payments of all types ensuring that payments equal the amount due and that all late charges, if applicable, are collected.
  • Sell bank products for fee income.
  • Redeem cash items for deposit or cash.
  • Promote bank services and cross-sell bank products.
  • Provide information for customers regarding accounts and products.
  • Balance cash and negotiable items.
  • Satisfactorily complete all required compliance bank training and comply with all regulations which apply within the scope of the position.
  • Combination and/or key control.
  • Balancing cash within the designated guidelines.
  • Maintain a neat work area.
  • Maintain cash within established limits to reduce the bank's exposure to loss.
  • Adherence to bank policies and procedures.
  • Perform designated management activities such as:
    • Reconcile Gift Cards.
    • Assist with cash counts and internal audits.
    • Sign cashier checks and approve checks up to designated limits.
  • Opening and processing night depository, ATM and/or cash dispensers.
  • Control of negotiable instruments.
  • Process account maintenance changes as requested by customers and management.
  • Internal audit of cash and negotiable instruments.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed.

Competencies:

  • Ability to process at least 30 transactions per paid hour.
  • Ability to assist other tellers in balancing and performing other activities.
  • Ability to inquire and perform transactions.


Education and Experience:

  • Required:Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Preferred:1+ years in customer service or cash handling

Working Conditions:

  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods, sitting, walking and must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. waist high and 20 lbs. shoulder high.
  • Work environment is indoors in a clean atmosphere with normal noise levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Exposed to a potentially hazardous condition - robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to minimize the risk upon training period.

Physical Requirements:

  • Critical sensory abilities are seeing, distinguishing colors, hearing/listening, touching, and speaking.
  • Mental effort requirements include reading, writing, basic arithmetic, mathematics, visualizing conclusions, analyzing data, searching for solutions, conducting research and managing resources.
  • Physical dexterity requirements include operating teller machine, telephone, computer, coin counter, calculator, check encoder, currency counter, cash advance machine, branch capture scanner, document imaging scanner, and photocopier.


Travel Requirements:

  • Primary work assignment will be in the Big Timber branch; employees should agree to go to any other location requested by management, with the understanding that such temporary re-assignment will require the use of your personal vehicle. If requested to spend the entire day at a non-primary location, American Bank will pay for time spent traveling which is inclusive from the time an employee leaves home to the time returned to home. In addition, any time that one uses their personal vehicle, in such travel, American Bank will reimburse mileage at the current designated IRS mileage reimbursement rate.
