Job description

Overview:

At German American Bank, compliance is a strategic function that helps protect our customers, support sustainable growth, and strengthen our reputation as a trusted financial institution. We're seeking an experienced Deputy Compliance Officer to provide leadership for our enterprise-wide Compliance Management System (CMS) and serve as a key partner to executive leadership in managing regulatory risk. This is an opportunity to influence the Bank's compliance strategy, lead high-performing teams, and help ensure we continue to operate with integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to doing what's right.

What You'll Do:

Day in the Life - As the Deputy Compliance Officer, you'll lead the Bank's Compliance, BSA, and CRA/Fair Lending teams while overseeing the Bank's enterprise-wide CMS. You'll provide guidance on federal and state banking regulations, direct compliance monitoring and testing activities, and oversee regulatory change management efforts. You'll establish meaningful compliance metrics and reporting for executive leadership and management committees, support regulatory examinations and audits, and help ensure timely resolution of findings. Along the way, you'll collaborate with business leaders across the organization to promote sound compliance practices, provide credible challenge, and support well-controlled business operations.

What it Takes:

To be successful as the Deputy Compliance Officer, you'll need:

  • 5-10 years of banking compliance, regulatory, or risk management experience.
  • 3-5 years leadership/managerial experience.
  • Experience at a mid-size or large financial institution ($5B-$50B)
  • Demonstrated experience managing regulatory compliance examinations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or related field required. Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) and/or Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) preferred.
  • Ability to: communicate effectively (written and verbally), maintain confidentiality, work with speed and accuracy, and work independently and as a team member.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work well in teams and individually.
