Job description

Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated individual to work on a crew at an Asphalt Production Facility for one of the largest heavy civil construction companies in the Mid-Atlantic area. Critical thinking skills, mechanical ability, communication skills, an ability to learn, focus and commitment to safety, and a hard working attitude are necessary. Equipment operation experience and mechanical skills are beneficial. Most employees are multi-disciplined and perform a few if not all of the roles at the facility and sometimes multiple roles in the same shift. Various skill training and personal development is provided and growth and advancement is available and promoted within the company. The work is performed in a fast paced environment and often critical to the success of large scale heavy civil construction projects on the largest and most high profile highways and interstates in the area.

  • Operate asphalt plant - automated drum and batch plant systems - operations are controlled through automated computer systems and control boards.
  • Communicate with quality control personnel to ensure specifications are met and adjust mix formulas and production to do so.
  • Monitor plant status, adjust plant as needed, load out material onto dump trucks, dispatch trucks.
  • Communicate with internal paving crews and project teams as well as external customers and adjusts production to maximize profits, minimize waste, maintain or improve quality,
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through quality and customer service.
  • Keep plant running at optimal performance to avoid downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your co-workers. Participate in safety discussions and support the company's vision on safety.
  • Schedule production needs for the following day and adjust schedule for current day.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly documentation and reporting as needed
  • Plan the following day's production plan and order raw materials.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance on the plant, scheduled repairs, and breakdown repairs. Focus on eliminating downtime and provide innovative solutions to do so. Perform winter maintenance repairs on plant.
  • Assist as an equipment operator as needed - during production a CAT 980 or 966 Loader is operated to feed raw materials into cold feed/recycle bins and maintain/manage stockyard. We also operate manlifts, material handlers, skid steers, and forklifts, among other pieces of equipment. Training and evaluation occurs before operation of any of these pieces of equipment. The equipment operator is responsible for pre-shift inspections of equipment and helping to maintain the equipment.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Requires basic mechanical skills and basic knowledge of computers. Mobile or stationary equipment experience is beneficial as is experience in the manufacturing or construction industries.
  • Physical Demands - Labor can range from light to heavyWork Environment - Control tower, outside around industrial environment, inside mobile equipment, inside of stationary equipment where PPE, monitoring systems, and precautions are used to avoid exposure to hazards.
