  • This job is a member of the Information Technology team within the Information Technology Division.
  • The Senior Principal Architect, IOC Technology is responsible for providing the technical direction and leadership in the architecture, design, development and deployment of solutions used primarily at the Integrated Operations Center (IOC), the nerve center of American’s operation.  You will leverage your technical knowledge, expertise and experience to support the IOC in keeping the operations running smoothly and making the best possible decisions to get our customers to their destinations as close to schedule as possible.
What you'll do
  • Responsible for technical excellence of a major product or product group.
  • Responsible for creating detailed designs, defining patterns, coding key components, troubleshooting technical issues, securing, modernizing, refactoring and technical debt reduction.
  • Responsible for elevating team’s technical maturity in design, testing, availability, security and other non-functionals….
  • Responsible for product/product group and technical stakeholder management.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate IT risks, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations.
  • Innovation: Drive innovation within the organization by exploring new technologies and implementing solutions that improve efficiency and drive business value.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating understanding and buy-in for IT initiatives.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute IT strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring technology initiatives support organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of application systems development experience
  • 5 years architectural and design experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of technical or team leadership experience
  • 2+ years' experience in Agile methodology
  • 2+ years' experience in DevOps deployment processes
  • 1+ years’ Palantir development/enablement experience 
  • Airline industry experience 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Background in Enterprise/Solutions Architecture or software engineering
  • Command of architecture, design patterns and business processes
  • Mastery of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines
  • Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices
  • Expertise in working in in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals, and passionate about building an innovative culture
  • Experienced in technology transformations and migration to one or more Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI
  • Strong technical leader able to drive to outcomes and mentor delivery teams
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) tools and platforms
  • Hands-on experience with containers and container orchestration platforms (aka Docker & Kubernetes)
  • Expertise in one or more cloud native relational databases such as MySql, PostgreSql and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and MongoDB highly desired
  • Demonstrated track record in building platforms and tools that accelerate technology transformations
  • Expertise with databases and migration to/from enterprise class databases highly desired
