Job Summary:

The Pre-Op/ PACU RN is responsible for managing the care of the patient requiring a surgical procedure that requires moderate to complex assessments, interventions and levels of nursing vigilance. The Pre-Op/ PACU RN is responsible to the Director of Nursing for assigned Pre Op/ PACU unit.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

Currently licensed and in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing.

BLS certification.

ACLS certification.

PALS certification.

Knowledge and experience in Perioperative care of the surgical patient.

Minimum one year ORTHOPEDICS and SPINE experience

Knowledge of specialized equipment.

Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Minimum one year in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative surgical patient care at outpatient surgical center.

Principal Responsibilities

Demonstrates ability to assess patient status on admission to the preop area, the operating room and/or the PACU area and on a continuing basis.

Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.

Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer and score accurately as defined by organizational policy.

Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.

Transfer care as needed.

Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patientโ€™s condition and response to care.

Administers and document medications, solutions and treatments as prescribed.

Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as needed.

Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.

Participate in the performance appraisal process.

Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Comply with all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.

Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.

Maintains competencies to function in the RN role within specific area. (Ex. Preop, OR, and Pacu).

Demonstrates behaviors and actions which support the mission, goals and operations of the Surgery Center that also contribute to continuous service improvement.

Exhibits flexibility, adapting readily to changes in the work environment and/or work schedule.

Maintains a positive attitude, even during periods of stress and challenge.

Maintains positive attendance and communicate in advance any absences from work.

Perform all other duties as assigned.
