Our Software Development Engineers (SDEs) use advanced AI technology, deep device-side knowledge and large-scale systems to solve complex problems. We get to see the impact of their work first-hand on millions of Echo devices worldwide.
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years. Key job responsibilities
- Design & Development: Design, develop, and maintain timer, alarm, and reminder features on Echo devices, ensuring reliability and low-latency performance. Own end-to-end delivery of medium-to-large features across the full software stack including firmware, middleware, and cloud integration. Develop and optimize on-device scheduling logic to ensure accurate triggering across device states including active, standby, and low-power modes.
- Technical Leadership: Drive technical design discussions and produce design documents for new features and system improvements

Identify and resolve ambiguity in requirements by collaborating with PMs, UX, and cross-functional partners. Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and knowledge sharing. Proactively identify technical debt and propose solutions to improve maintainability.
- System Reliability & Performance: Ensure high availability and fault tolerance including offline and network-degraded scenarios

Optimize memory, CPU, and power consumption for on-device processing. Implement robust error handling for edge cases such as device reboots, time zone changes, and DST transitions.
- Testing & Quality: Develop comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end test strategies. Participate in on-call rotations and drive root cause analysis for production issues

Conduct thorough code reviews to maintain quality standards.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Alexa cloud services teams for multi-device synchronization. Partner with voice/NLU teams to improve intent recognition for timer, alarm, and reminder utterances. Coordinate with hardware teams to optimize software within device constraints.
