Description
Vacancy is in the Employment Services Division of the Human Resources Department. Under supervision, performs increasingly responsible and difficult professional human resources functions in the areas of recruitment, testing, classification, compensation, and training. Acts as liaison to City departments on personnel activities, which may require independent judgment in applying and advising on Human Resources policies and procedures and contractual provisions. Conducts research as needed or as assigned, including preparing reports and making recommendations. May assist other divisions of the Human Resources Department (i.e. Administration, Employee and Labor Relations, and Benefits Administration) as assigned.

This is a non-union position. The hours of this position are 40 per week.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application and may include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure:
Knowledge of:
  • Basic human resources administration and the principles and practices of job classification, salary administration and civil service testing.
Ability to:
  • Evaluate a variety of job skills and knowledge.
  • Write effectively and to prepare a variety of simple and complex reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, city officials and the general public.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, psychology, sociology or a closely-related field.
OR
Sixty (60) or more credits from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, psychology, sociology, or a closely-related field ANDtwo (2) years of technical experience in human resources.
A COPY OF YOUR DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a city physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
