The Machinist is dedicated to producing high-quality parts through expert craftsmanship, attention to detail, and collaboration with engineers, planners, and vendors. By combining technical skill with a proactive, problem-solving mindset, this role ensures continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and the safe, efficient execution of maintenance and production goals.
Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Setting up and operating a variety of computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments, and tools.
  • Using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision metal parts.
  • Smoothing and polishing surfaces of parts, products, tools, and dies; presenting finished workpieces to customers and making modifications as needed.
  • Machining materials to very close tolerances and fits while measuring, examining, and testing completed products to identify defects.
  • Producing small batches or one-of-a-kind precision machined items.
  • Working independently with minimal supervision to solve unusual or complex problems while interacting with mechanics, engineers, planners, onsite fabrication shops, and outside vendors to support machining needs.
  • Managing work orders by tracking time charged, updating status, and communicating with planners and expeditors.
  • Serving on the plant ERT (Emergency Response Team)
  • All other duties assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate degree
Experience
  • Certified machining training through Technical School or Armed Services + 5 years minimum shop experience
  • 10 years' experience operating a mix of manual, semi-automatic, and CNC machines
  • Experience with SAP, AutoCAD and MS Office products
  • Experience with field machining (portable mag-base drill, align boring, flange facing) preferred.
  • Ability to competently operate machine tool equipment:
  • Manual and CNC lathes
  • Manual and CNC milling machine
  • Surface grinders
  • Drill presses
  • Shapers
  • Dynamic Balancing Equipment
  • Heat Treating Equipment
  • Precision Measurement Tools
  • Excellent safety record and ability to meet qualifications to be on Emergency Response Team.

  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
  • Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled shifts, including short-notice hours on days off, as needed to meet business requirements.
  • Must be able to handle a fast-paced, physically active environment.
