Job description

Every step of the UMB Institutional Investment Management investment process is overseen and executed by dedicated teams of research and portfolio specialists. From both a top-down and bottom-up perspective --- from the global macro-economic environment down to individual security selections and concluding with Strategic and Policy oversight --- teams of experts develop and implement the guiding investment themes and the fulfillment strategies to optimally leverage the division's outlook for the upcoming cycle, in the manner best suited to the clients' goals and objectives.

The Institutional Investment Management Relationship Manager II works with our Institutional Investment Management (IIM) clients. This role helps coordinate custom investment solutions that harness the power of the investment process outlined above. In this role, you will serve as the investment management liaison between the client and our Portfolio Construction Desk. You will serve as the primary relationship manager that coordinates the development, maintenance, and oversight of the investment strategy and asset allocation for clients serviced by the Institutional Investment Management team. This role will focus on serving our clients that have between $2-$25 million in assets under management.

How You Will Spend Your Time:

Portfolio Construction Desk Collaborate with the firm's Portfolio Construction Desk (PCD) to open investment advisory accounts for IIM clients and manage their investment strategy on a discretionary basis. Work with advisory teams to migrate existing portfolios to PCD through active rebalancing and tax aware strategies.

Relationship Management and Sales Support Coordinate team to analyze portfolios and develop advanced Portfolio Management solutions and strategies based on the unique Investment Policy Statement (IPS) for each individual client and parameters provided via Request for Proposal (RFP) opportunities.

Client Service Serve as primary relationship manager. Lead the discussion around investment strategy options and performance. Articulate firm messaging about key macro-economic and market factors. Participate in and lead sales presentations. Collaborate with Client Service Specialist to ensure that administrative tasks are processed in an accurate and timely manner.

Investment Oversight Develop and oversee investment functions, including policies, procedures, reporting, Regulation 9 review and performance metrics, utilizing firm-approved resources. This includes the deployment of firm approved asset allocation models and the implementation of strategy.

Asset Allocation Make asset allocation recommendations based on custom Investment Policy Statement provided by client and set up portfolios in collaboration with PCD. Critically examine current portfolio and provide rebalance instructions to PCD

Benchmark and Investment Policy Recommendations Review and develop recommendations for appropriate benchmarks for the current asset allocation. Provide initial and ongoing review of client IPS.

  • Manage a book of Institutional client relationships aimed at retention and expansion
  • Continuously focus on improving client satisfaction and engagement with staff and board members
  • Ensure all agreed upon client service levels are met
  • Responsible for new client onboarding, including legal documentation and authority resolution updates
  • Drive regular meeting schedules and establish reporting cycles with clients
  • Partner with other UMB LOBs (Capital Markets/Commercial/Business Banking) to ensure all client service needs and requirements are met
  • Coordinate internal resources to deliver services and to resolve client issues if they arise
  • Share industry expertise and best practices with clients
  • Coordinate and manage sponsorship requests
  • Deliver reports demonstrating that all standards of care and agreed upon service levels are achieved
  • Keep up to date the pipeline of all new business expansion opportunities across relationships
  • Based on client interactions and input from team associates, proactively identify new ways to enhance UMB's value proposition in the marketplace
