How much do algorithms engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 25, 2026, the average yearly pay for algorithms engineer in the United States is $131,349.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $108,500.00 and $147,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do Algorithms Engineers typically collaborate with other teams during the product development process?

Algorithms Engineers frequently work alongside cross-functional teams, including software developers, data scientists, and product managers, to ensure that algorithmic solutions are effectively integrated into products. They often participate in regular meetings to discuss requirements, share progress, and troubleshoot technical challenges. Close collaboration is essential, as algorithms must align with product goals and user needs, and Engineers may need to adjust models or optimizations based on feedback from testing or user data. This teamwork not only improves the final product but also provides valuable learning and growth opportunities for Algorithms Engineers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Algorithms Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Algorithms Engineer, you need a strong background in mathematics, computer science, and algorithm design, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, and experience with tools like MATLAB or TensorFlow, are commonly required, along with knowledge of data structures and optimization techniques. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and explaining complex concepts. These skills enable the development of efficient, scalable solutions that drive technological innovation and product performance.

What are Algorithms Engineers?

Algorithms Engineers are professionals who design, analyze, and implement algorithms to solve complex computational problems efficiently. They often work in fields such as software development, artificial intelligence, data science, and computer vision. Their role involves optimizing code for speed and scalability, and collaborating with other engineers and researchers to develop new solutions. Strong skills in mathematics, programming, and problem-solving are essential for this job. Algorithms Engineers play a crucial part in making software systems faster, smarter, and more reliable.

What is the difference between Algorithms Engineer vs Data Scientist?

AspectAlgorithms EngineerData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldsBachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields
Work EnvironmentDevelops algorithms for software, hardware, or embedded systemsAnalyzes data to extract insights, build models, and inform decisions
Industry UsageTech, robotics, AI, and software development companiesFinance, healthcare, marketing, and tech sectors
Common Search/ComparisonFocuses on algorithm design and optimizationFocuses on data analysis and predictive modeling

Algorithms Engineers primarily develop and optimize algorithms for software and hardware systems, while Data Scientists analyze data to generate insights and build predictive models. Both roles require strong programming skills and a background in mathematics, but they serve different purposes within technology and data-driven industries.

Job description

Position Description: Job SummaryANPC is a global supplier of precision approach guidance and area surveillance solutions aimed at improving the safety and capacity of civil and military aviation for customers on all seven continents. Our transponder-based solutions are designed to serve airfields where others cannot. We are a team of extraordinary professionals working together to perform an important mission to uniquely serve airports with terrain, obstacles and other challenges that no other business can provide. We are seeking a high-caliber Algorithms Engineer with a deep mathematical foundation to lead the development and analysis of our core algorithmic frameworks. This is not a generalist coding role; it is a position for a specialist who thrives at the intersection of theoretical analysis and safety-critical implementation. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of an algorithmโ€”from conceptualizing a heuristic to proving its correctness in a structured, high-stakes environment. This role is a designated succession-track position. You will work in tandem with our current specialist to ensure a seamless transfer of institutional knowledge while preparing to take full ownership of the algorithmic domain. While we prefer candidates to join us in Hood River, OR, we are considering hybrid or remote for this role.Essential Job Functionsโ€ข Design novel solutions for complex system problems, utilizing everything from standard Kalman filtering and estimation techniques to bespoke heuristics.โ€ข Provide rigorous analysis to prove the correctness, stability, and efficiency of algorithms before deployment.โ€ข Oversee and optimize existing algorithmic libraries to ensure continued reliability.โ€ข Translate complex mathematical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams.Education and Work Experience Requirementsโ€ข Masterโ€™s or PhD in Math or Physics, with a specialization in Applied Math, Linear Algebra, Statistics, Computational Math, or Control Systems.โ€ข 5+ years of experience in structured software development.โ€ข Proficiency in MATLAB / Simulink (or equivalent high-level modeling environments).โ€ข Exceptional written and verbal skills, with a proven ability to explain "the math" to those who don't speak it.โ€ข Experience with DO-278 or similar safety-critical development standards is a significant advantage. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:โ€ข Aviation Domain Expertise: Direct experience working on flight-deck or aerospace projects.โ€ข Proven Impact: A portfolio that includes an operational product currently in the field.โ€ข Systems Thinking: Experience or exposure to Systems Engineering workflows.โ€ข Mentorship: A history of elevating others, such as teaching experience or mentoring junior engineers and researchers.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job in an office and manufacturing environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Essential functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for periods of time; operating a computer and keyboard; talk and hear at normal room levels; using hands to finger, grasp, and feel; repetitive motion; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; lift, push, carry, or pull up to 20 pounds.Work environmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in an office and manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Employee is exposed to the typical office environment with computers, printers and telephones. In addition to base pay, our competitive total rewards package consists of:โ€ข 401(k) plan with match with immediate vesting.โ€ข Comprehensive suite of insurance benefits for employees (and their families) to include a variety of medical plan options (including an HSA with employer contribution), dental, vision, life and disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Legal/Identity support plans, pet insurance.โ€ข Access to Flexible Spending Accounts (Medical and Dependent Care).โ€ข Generous paid time off including 4 weeks of vacation per year, 11 paid company holidays, which includes a winter company shutdown from Christmas to New Yearโ€™s.
