What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Algorithms Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Algorithms Engineer, you need a strong background in mathematics, computer science, and algorithm design, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, and experience with tools like MATLAB or TensorFlow, are commonly required, along with knowledge of data structures and optimization techniques. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and explaining complex concepts. These skills enable the development of efficient, scalable solutions that drive technological innovation and product performance.

How do Algorithms Engineers typically collaborate with other teams during the product development process?

Algorithms Engineers frequently work alongside cross-functional teams, including software developers, data scientists, and product managers, to ensure that algorithmic solutions are effectively integrated into products. They often participate in regular meetings to discuss requirements, share progress, and troubleshoot technical challenges. Close collaboration is essential, as algorithms must align with product goals and user needs, and Engineers may need to adjust models or optimizations based on feedback from testing or user data. This teamwork not only improves the final product but also provides valuable learning and growth opportunities for Algorithms Engineers.

What are Algorithms Engineers?

Algorithms Engineers are professionals who design, analyze, and implement algorithms to solve complex computational problems efficiently. They often work in fields such as software development, artificial intelligence, data science, and computer vision. Their role involves optimizing code for speed and scalability, and collaborating with other engineers and researchers to develop new solutions. Strong skills in mathematics, programming, and problem-solving are essential for this job. Algorithms Engineers play a crucial part in making software systems faster, smarter, and more reliable.

What is the difference between Algorithms Engineer vs Data Scientist?

AspectAlgorithms EngineerData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldsBachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields
Work EnvironmentDevelops algorithms for software, hardware, or embedded systemsAnalyzes data to extract insights, build models, and inform decisions
Industry UsageTech, robotics, AI, and software development companiesFinance, healthcare, marketing, and tech sectors
Common Search/ComparisonFocuses on algorithm design and optimizationFocuses on data analysis and predictive modeling

Algorithms Engineers primarily develop and optimize algorithms for software and hardware systems, while Data Scientists analyze data to generate insights and build predictive models. Both roles require strong programming skills and a background in mathematics, but they serve different purposes within technology and data-driven industries.

Radar Algorithms Engineer

Radar Algorithms Engineer

Array Labs

Redwood City, CA

Full-time

Posted 25 days ago

Job description

Array Labs builds advanced radar systems to help humanity understand and respond to changes across the physical world.

We’re launching a coordinated fleet of radar satellites to create a high-resolution 3D map of the Earth – updated in real time – enabling faster, smarter decision-making for government and commercial organizations supporting disaster response, infrastructure resilience, and mission-critical geopolitical intelligence.

We design and build our satellites end-to-end, producing the world’s most advanced earth observation satellites. Our fleet will deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy, coverage, and responsiveness to power critical insights precisely where they’re needed most.

About the Job
As a Radar Algorithms Engineer you will develop, deploy, and scale innovative 3D reconstruction algorithms and processing techniques for this unique radar imaging system. In addition to working closely with the rest of the software team, you will be collaborating with the hardware and product teams to rapidly advance image formation techniques from concept to a cloud-based imagery production pipeline.

As part of our quickly growing engineering team, you will play a critical role in the design of the world’s most advanced radar satellite constellation—one that will significantly improve humanity’s ability to rapidly and comprehensively understand our changing planet.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop synthetic aperture radar algorithms to create high-quality 3D data-products. These can take inspiration from techniques in tomography, interferometry, radargrammetry, as well as computer vision algorithms.
  • Work closely with the rest of the software team to implement and deploy efficient algorithms in our cloud-based image production pipeline
  • Create tools for predicting the performance of 3D reconstruction algorithms based on image collection geometry
  • Collaborate with the product team to understand customer use-cases and translate needs into system-level requirements.
  • Generate test plans and methods to validate product quality and ensure it meets end-user expectations
Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or related field
  • Experience in SAR digital signal processing and algorithm development
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Learn new concepts rapidly, completely, and in a self-directed manner
  • High levels of self-motivation and personal accountability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under significant time constraints
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or MATLAB
Preferred skills and experience:
  • Advanced degree with emphasis in radar image formation
  • Familiarity with SAR image formation algorithms
  • Familiarity with SAR collection modes and motion compensation concepts
  • Experience deploying radar algorithms into production pipelines
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices (version control, code review, continuous integration, etc)
  • Familiarity with SAR collection geometries and implications (crossing node interferometry, multi-baseline interferometry)
  • Familiarity with SAR interferogram processing
  • Familiarity with tomographic aspects of SAR and related concepts such as holographic principles, critical baseline, etc.
  • Familiarity with multi-dimensional inverse SAR and related optimization methods
ITAR Requirements:
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Equal Opportunity Employer:
  • Array Labs is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made on the basis of merit, competence, and job qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by gender, color, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender identity, veteran status, disability status, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
