Job description

Job Summary:

The Airworthiness Engineer (Qualification / Certification) performs formal qualification and regulatory compliance oversight test activities for standard and custom hardware and software systems. This individual will develop procedures needed to demonstrate product compliance and will assist in the evaluation of test equipment required to verify product performance during qualification tests. The Staff Qualification Engineer will assist in the construction or modification of test fixtures. This individual has principal responsibility for ensuring all aspects of product and system-level qualification are compliant with the appropriate airworthiness requirements and regulation including all the substantiation data deliverables for Airbus, Boeing, and STC. This individual is expected to be coaching junior Engineers in the qualification field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interface with Design and Software groups to identify support equipment needed to successfully execute performance verification during formal qualification testing
  • Actively participate and represent the qualification team in all design development meeting such as PDR and CDR
  • Revie and approve technical data pertaining to the Qualification Procedures and Qualification Test Repots needed to demonstrate product compliance to established requirements
  • Work with, but remain independent of, the design team to ensure adherence to the qualification strategy
  • Facilitate contracts execution with third-party laboratories to secure the proper resources, test facilities and regulatory agency coordination
  • Monitor, coordinate and manage all activities related to the execution of formal qualification test program including, but not limited to:
  • Test schedule (chronological order of test activities)
  • Set up and integration of test lab and support equipment
  • Regulatory authority coordination as it relates to the execution of formal qualification testing
  • Regularly scheduled status reports
  • As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), performs the necessary research, including root cause analysis to support the development and release of a Failure Reporting and Corrective Action (FRACA) which documents test failure conditions and recovery plan
  • Masters all the Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC, Environmental (ENV), and Structural (STR) testing requirements and troubleshooting techniques
  • Represent the company and interface professionally with the FAA, Boeing, Airbus, and company suppliers

Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 9+ years of experience working in a similar role or related field
  • Experience working in an AS9100 quality environment
  • Experience in a test environment with emphasis on satisfying the authorities & OEM requirements as well as other industry standards
  • Strong familiarization with FAA Part 25 and EASA CS Part 25 requirements related to airborne IFE equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard RTCA and airframe qualification requirements
  • In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • In-depth knowledge of Electrical/EMI test procedures, potential challenges and mitigation techniques
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Temperature and pressure chambers
  • Vibration and Acceleration test equipment
  • EMI test set up and wiring
  • Feedback devices such as accelerometers and thermocouples

Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $130,000 โ€“ $168,000 per year and reflects multiple levels within the role. Final level and compensation will be determined based on the candidateโ€™s skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
