Job Title: Senior Aerospace Certification & Airworthiness Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Aerospace Certification & Airworthiness Engineer to lead the regulatory approval process for our aircraft modification projects. You will act as the technical authority for certification, responsible for developing compliance checklists, substantiation reports, and coordinating directly with regulatory representatives to ensure all design changes meet stringent airworthiness standards.
This is a high-visibility position for an engineer who understands the critical balance between design innovation and regulatory requirements. You will manage the certification lifecycle for modification projects, ensuring that all data deliverables from suppliers are accurate and that compliance concerns are addressed proactively. If you have a deep mastery of certification processes and enjoy the challenge of bridging the gap between engineering design and regulatory approval, this is an excellent opportunity to own the airworthiness strategy for our fleet projects.
Key Responsibilities
Certification Strategy & Documentation
• Compliance Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive certification plans, compliance checklists, and conformity inspection schedules.
• Substantiation Ownership: Draft and review technical substantiation reports, test plans, and findings related to structural, mechanical, and safety-critical systems.
• Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agency project meetings. Present findings, manage responses to inquiries, and resolve airworthiness concerns to ensure project timelines remain on track.
Project & Stakeholder Management
• Data Lifecycle: Coordinate the flow of certification data from internal design teams and external suppliers. Ensure all deliverables meet technical and regulatory requirements.
• Technical Interface: Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including design engineers, customers, and testing labs, to ensure modification projects are fully compliant from initial concept to final approval.
• Issue Resolution: Proactively identify and address potential roadblocks in the certification process, applying your knowledge of material fabrication, hardware specifications, and airworthiness standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Experience Baseline: 4-7 years of overall engineering experience in an aerospace environment.
• Technical Mastery: Working knowledge of aircraft certification processes, substantiation techniques, and regulatory standards.
• Design Familiarity: Proven familiarity with mechanical/structural design processes, materials, and fabrication methods.
Preferred Attributes
• Proven success in a Certification, Design, or Substantiation Engineer role.
• Deep knowledge of aircraft interiors and safety-critical components.
• Superior communication skills-you must be comfortable articulating technical compliance details to both project leadership and regulatory representatives.
