Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the highest level of skilled discipline-specific tasks required to ensure the smooth operation of Universal Orlando Utilities as it pertains to all Industrial, Commercial and Non-Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration equipment, and Ride Vehicle (RV) HVAC equipment in Ride buildings, and the oversight of the UO chill water infrastructure.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the systematic approach, guidance, and expertise regarding servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation, supply/exhaust fans, pumps, valves, piping, associated controls, and accessories site wide, with an emphasis on Ride buildings, to improve operational reliability, safety, serviceability, and system efficiencies.
  • Responsible for the systematic approach, guidance and expertise regarding servicing all mechanical and electrical components associated with walk in freezers, coolers, rack systems, accessories and controls site wide to improve operational reliability, safety, serviceability, and system efficiencies.
  • Responsible for providing mechanical and technical guidance to HVAC Tech I, Tech II, Tech III technicians and apprentices to continually develop the education, experience and skill set within the department.
  • Responsible for the oversight of third party contractors and/or vendors task with infrastructure repairs, renovations, or replacement of HVAC/Refrigeration equipment, underground mechanical utilities as directed. Will be responsible for the verification of all City of Orlando permitted work completed in house or by a third party vendor.
  • Responsible for completion of preventative maintenance on HVAC/Refrigeration systems as required site wide.
  • Coordinate with the BMS department to modify set points or change BAS schedules as required to gain efficiencies and/or satisfy customers and management’s expectations. Assist BMS department with emergency troubleshooting and repair as needed site wide.
  • Support the HVAC Coordinator by providing proper documentation for ordering materials as needed.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
SCOPE:

Perform the highest level of advanced tasks in the troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and installation of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning and ventilation, and related systems and controls, including: Organizing and performing advanced service, repairs, troubleshooting and overhaul of light commercial and industrial heating, air conditioning ventilation and refrigeration; Understanding complex electrical schematics, BMS control functions/strategies and electrical distribution systems; Troubleshooting root causes and determine proper repairs; Analyzing system data to determine the need for increased maintenance frequencies or improved performance of the equipment; and assisting Utilities management with the supervision and documentation of any contractor activity.

EDUCATION:
  • High school degree or GED is required
  • Technical school is preferred
  • Associate’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 8 years’ experience with Commercial/Industrial HVAC/R systems including building automation systems, boilers, chillers and associated equipment is required.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • A valid Florida Drivers’ License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • (EPA) Universal Refrigerant Certificate is required.
  • A State or County Journeyman’s License, County Competency Card or State Certified Contractors License is required.
