Job description

FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS), an ADEC Innovation, seeking an Air Quality Intern to assist the Air Quality team with performing analyses, research, and documentation support in the areas of air quality, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and energy .The Air Quality Intern will provide general support in environmental analysis and document preparation, and will gain practical knowledge in rules and regulations related to air quality, GHG emissions and energy. In addition, the Air Quality Intern will gain knowledge in modeling tools used in air pollutant and GHG emissions and air dispersion modeling including CalEEMod, AERMOD, HARP, and EMFAC. This Air Quality Intern role will be primarily air quality and GHG emissions focused, though the opportunity exists to be exposed to other environmental resource areas depending on workload and interest. This paid internship will be available in a remote or hybrid working environment (dependent on proximity to an FCS office location).

This position will report to a Senior Air Quality Scientist. This is on-call, position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers and Senior Air Quality Scientists with research, data collection, and other project-related tasks, as assigned.
  • Assist with reviewing project information, site plans, and supporting documents to identify information needed for environmental and technical analyses.
  • Provide support in the preparation, editing, and quality review of technical reports, memoranda, air quality and GHG emissions estimates, modeling and analysis, and other project deliverables, as assigned.
  • Assist with compiling, organizing, and managing project data, technical information, and supporting documentation used in AQ/GHG and related environmental studies.
  • Coordinate with project team members to gather, track, and verify information needed to support project analyses and deliverables.
  • Assist with project administration activities, including project setup, document management, and coordination with internal staff and resources.
  • Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, and professional development activities to build knowledge of environmental planning and AQ/GHG consulting practices, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Degree (In-process) in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Planning, Geography, or a related field
  • Technical competence and/or understanding of one or more environmental specialties, such as land use, socio-economics, earth resources, hydrology, air, noise, etc.

The position operates in a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment. FCS is dedicated to providing our staff the opportunity to elect hybrid office/home working location options. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
