What is the average salary in an AI lab?

The average salary in an AI lab can vary greatly depending on the role, level of experience, and location. Entry-level research assistants or engineers might earn between $70,000 and $120,000 per year in the United States, while senior researchers and AI scientists can earn upwards of $150,000 to $250,000 or more. Compensation packages often include bonuses, stock options, and other benefits, especially at leading tech companies. Salaries may also differ between academia, industry, and government labs. It's important to consider the specific position and institution when researching AI lab salaries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI lab researcher?

To thrive as an AI Lab Researcher, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and machine learning, typically supported by an advanced degree such as a Master's or Ph.D. in a related field. Proficiency with programming languages like Python, frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and experience with data analysis tools are essential. Innovation, critical thinking, and strong collaboration skills help researchers excel in developing novel AI solutions and working within interdisciplinary teams. These skills and qualities enable impactful research, successful project outcomes, and advancement in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in an AI lab environment?

Professionals in AI labs often encounter challenges such as balancing research innovation with practical, real-world applications and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. The fast-paced evolution of AI technologies requires continuous learning and adaptation. Additionally, managing large datasets and ensuring ethical considerations in developing AI solutions can add complexity to daily work. Collaboration is key, as projects often involve data scientists, engineers, and domain experts working closely together.

Job description

Description:

At Arrive AI (Nasdaq: ARAI), we're not just building products—we're transforming the future of the Autonomous Last Mile™ (ALM). Over a decade ago, we started with a pioneering vision and patents for the first smart mailbox for drone delivery. Through systematic research, development, and deep customer collaboration, we've evolved to today where we deploy Arrive Points—a type of smart locker and mini-cross-docks for frictionless drone, robotic, and courier delivery and pickup, utilized from medical supplies to meals to e-commerce. Arrive AI is now growing and investing to scale an ALM network and platform of the future for all autonomous delivery providers, services, and customers. Arrive AI is the intelligent choice for the last inch of the Autonomous Last Mile™.

About Us:

We move fast, balancing strategy with opportunity. We are merit-based, valuing integrity, innovation, and treating others as we want to be treated. At Arrive AI, every employee is an equity holder and a business owner. Our shared vision, ownership, and culture fuel our mission to revolutionize autonomous delivery.

The Role:

The Field Quality Technician plays a critical role in validating the performance, reliability, and safety of Arrive AI’s autonomous delivery hardware, including Arrive Points, drone integrations, and related electromechanical systems.

This role is responsible for executing mechanical, electrical, and environmental testing in alignment with approved test plans, targeted industry standards, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment as well as within deployed environments.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide expertise on electrotechnical diagnosis on customer environments, including on-site travel.
  •  Configure laboratory test equipment in accordance with approved test procedures and test requests.
  • Execute mechanical, electrical, and environmental product testing safely and accurately, following all lab protocols and operational guidelines.
  • Record observations, collect data, and prepare clear, structured, and formal test reports for engineering stakeholders.
  • Complete assigned testing within required timelines and priority schedules.
  • Maintain laboratory tools, fixtures, instruments, and work areas, including routine upkeep and adherence to 5S practices.
  • Assemble prototype components, jigs, and custom test fixtures as needed to support validation efforts.
  • Document QC lab and On-site discoveries, replication steps, and dignosis.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the lab and testing processes.
  • Communicate effectively with the Lab Manager and Test Engineers, with occasional interaction with Product Engineering.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented, cross-functional environment.

Additional:

  • Expect to travel up to 5 days per month.
  • Responsibilities include all other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

Salary is market competitive with high equity incentive – be an owner and grow with Arrive AI.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on technical experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Education

  •  Associate degree in an electromechanical or related technical field.
  • High school diploma, plus 3 to 5+ years of relevant hands-on technical experience, including product testing.

Core Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical machinery.
  • Ability to program — or willingness to learn programming for — PLCs and pneumatic control systems used in prototype assemblies.
  • Ability to participate in customer-facing discussions.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to make fine mechanical or electrical adjustments.
  • Ability to follow installation instructions and standardized test methods precisely.
  • Proficiency with electronic and mechanical measurement tools.
  • Skilled use of standard hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving development environment.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including authoring structured test documentation.
  • Experience assembling prototype components and custom fixtures.

Preferred / Additional Experience

  • Prior experience in a test lab or product validation environment and field service.
  • Exposure to testing against regulatory or compliance standards.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, HMI integration, and PLC programming.
  • Experience working with calibrated instruments and measurement equipment.
