Job Title: Lab Technician

Job Description

The Lab Technician performs accurate, precise, and timely testing of laboratory samples in a Quality Control Laboratory, following approved methods and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and safety guidelines. This role supports reliable analytical results through second person verification of data, contributes to laboratory investigations, and assists with equipment qualification and maintenance by executing well-defined protocols and procedures. The Lab Technician actively identifies and communicates opportunities to improve laboratory operations and supports a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate, precise, and timely execution of analytical methods and related support activities according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Follow structured workflows to maximize productivity and ensure consistent, high-quality testing.
  • Enter analytical data into laboratory systems and perform verification reviews with diligence and strong attention to detail in alignment with procedures, standards, and GMP requirements.
  • Recognize suspect analytical results and deviations from procedures, and promptly initiate appropriate event or deviation notices as required.
  • Perform routine equipment qualification, calibration, and maintenance by executing well-defined protocols.
  • Participate in laboratory investigations to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work space in accordance with laboratory and safety guidelines.
  • Train and mentor other laboratory personnel on methods, procedures, and good documentation practices.
  • Notify leadership when required by procedures, standards, or laboratory practices.
  • Assist co‑workers in completing laboratory duties in a timely manner across different labs as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in daily work activities and laboratory processes.
  • Troubleshoot analytical equipment and methods as required to resolve issues and maintain testing continuity.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, self‑inspections, and cross‑training activities within the laboratory.
  • Support quality documentation practices, including accurate recording of test results, observations, and any deviations.

Essential Skills

  • B.S. or A.S. degree in a related scientific field such as Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Life Science, or a closely related discipline, OR at least 12+ months of laboratory or quality control experience without a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory or quality control environment, preferably within a GMP or highly regulated setting.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear verbal communication and accurate written documentation.
  • Proven documentation skills with the ability to maintain complete, accurate, and compliant laboratory records.
  • Solid math skills to support calculations related to analytical testing, dilutions, and data interpretation.
  • Proficiency with computers and common software used in laboratory and documentation activities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work effectively in a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and quality control principles.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, protocols, and structured workflows.
  • Commitment to GMP, quality assurance, and safety practices in a laboratory setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
  • Experience with Gas Chromatography (GC).
  • Familiarity with Agilent chromatography systems or similar analytical platforms.
  • Experience with titration methods and pH testing.
  • Exposure to viscosity testing and related analytical techniques.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or life science quality control environments.
  • Experience with lipid or fat testing methods.
  • Understanding of quality documentation practices and quality inspection principles.
  • General knowledge of chromatography and other analytical chemistry techniques.
  • Ability to mentor and train others in laboratory procedures and best practices.
  • Interest in and aptitude for continuous improvement and process optimization in laboratory operations.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment that produces solid dosage medicines, nutrients, and vitamins for animal feed products, as well as pre‑mix pharmaceutical products. The laboratory environment is moderately controlled, positioned between a standard industrial lab and a full clean room; specialized clean room attire such as booties or hair and beard nets is not required. The facility includes a full‑service cafeteria offering hot and cold food options, vending machines, and a lunchroom. During the day shift, the cafeteria operates at full service, while the night shift has access to a mostly functional lunchroom setup. The standard schedule follows a 12‑hour shift from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on a 10‑week rotation. Team members work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Sunday, then rotate to Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every other Sunday. This pattern typically results in approximately 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next, creating built‑in overtime every other week. Initial training occurs on a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to align with new hire orientation. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
