Job description

We are seeking an innovative and technical AI Specialist to operationalize the district’s AI strategy. Following a successful leadership pilot with Playlab, this role will serve as the primary "force multiplier" for our 415 employees. You will move beyond basic implementation to help Principals, Directors, and Teachers build custom applications, analyze complex assessment data, and ensure safe, compliant AI adoption across the district.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Technical Support & App Development

  • Context: Leadership requested "Someone to call when support is needed."
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for district staff building tools in Playlab and other approved AI platforms.
  • Troubleshoot "DIY" projects created by school leaders, assisting with prompt engineering, logic flows, and debugging.
  • Partner with Special Education (SPED) and Intervention teams to build workflows that synthesize referral data and streamline IEP/504 processes as well as student assessment data at large


2. Data Analysis & Accountability

  • Context: High demand for "Accountability prediction" and "Data trends."
  • Design and manage AI workflows that analyze interim assessment data to project accountability ratings and TIA (Teacher Incentive Allotment) outcomes.
  • Move beyond text generation to create data-rich tools that help campus leaders visualize trends in student performance and attendance.
  • Automate routine administrative reporting to free up leadership time for instructional coaching.


3. Training & Professional Development

  • Context: Need for "AI Workshops" and "Best Practices" rollout.
  • Develop and facilitate ongoing training for the leadership team and broader staff (SY26/SY27 timeline).
  • Create a "Train the Trainer" model to empower campus champions.
  • Curate a library of "Best Practice" use cases (e.g., lesson planning, email automation, parent communication) to drive adoption.


4. Governance, Vetting & Ethics

  • Context: Leadership requested help "Vetting AI Vendors."
  • Serve as the gatekeeper for new AI tools, conducting privacy impact assessments and vendor vetting to ensure compliance with student data privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, etc.).
  • Establish district-wide norms for responsible AI use, including academic integrity guidelines for students and ethical use policies for staff.
  • Monitor usage across the district to ensure cohesion and prevent "tool fatigue."


Qualifications:

  • Experience with Generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and specific experience with "No-Code" app builders (Playlab experience is a strong plus).
  • Background in K-12 education data (understanding of STAAR, TIA, TELPAS, and accountability ratings is preferred).
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple language for educators.
  • Experience with data privacy and digital governance in an educational setting.
