Description
The Department of Agricultural Sciences (AS), within the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University, is seeking to fill a faculty position at the Lecturer level in Agricultural Business. Clemson's Agribusiness Program is a growing program with over 140 undergraduate students. The department offers an undergraduate degree in Agribusiness and a M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics. The Lecturer will help teach the undergraduate curriculum that focuses on the application of economic analysis to decision problems in agriculture, agribusiness, finance, and natural resources economics. The Agribusiness program currently has nine tenure-track faculty. This is a non-tenure 9-month appointment position, with the possibility of promotion to senior and principal lecturer.
Clemson University is a Land Grant university located on the shores of Lake Hartwell within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Upper Piedmont of South Carolina, USA. The 1,400-acre campus is part of the 18,000 acres of University Farms and Forests devoted to teaching and research. Clemson University is consistent ranked among the nation's top 25 public universities by U.S. News and World Report.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional responsibilities include developing and teaching undergraduate courses in fields associated with agribusiness and agricultural economics. The teaching load will include three to four undergraduate classes per semester. Specific courses that the lecturer will teach are: Agricultural Economics (AGRB 2020), Agriculture and Society (AGRB 2050), Marketing (AGRB 3090), and Agricultural Sales (AGRB 3510). The successful candidate will also be required to supervise internships and help grow the major through recruitment and student retention activities. The successful candidate can teach summer school courses for additional compensation.
Qualifications
The minimum required qualifications are an M.S. in agricultural business, agricultural economics, agricultural sciences, or a related field. Strong knowledge of the subject matter taught in undergraduate agricultural economics and agribusiness courses is required. Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to quality teaching, excellent communication skills, and desire to teach and mentor undergraduate students. Previous experience in agricultural production, agricultural business management, agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, and/or agricultural sales is preferred. This position provides the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. while developing instructional skills.
