Aggregate Testing information

What does an aggregate technician do?

An aggregate technician tests and inspects construction materials like gravel, sand, and crushed stone to ensure they meet quality and safety standards. They operate testing equipment, record data, and follow safety protocols, often working in laboratory or field environments. Certification in materials testing and knowledge of ASTM standards are common requirements for the role.

What is the highest paying concrete job?

In aggregate testing, senior roles such as laboratory managers or quality control supervisors tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding $70,000 annually. These positions require extensive experience, certifications, and knowledge of testing procedures and standards in the concrete industry.

What are the 5 tests on aggregates?

In aggregate testing, common tests include the sieve analysis to determine particle size distribution, the Los Angeles (LA) abrasion test for durability, the specific gravity test to assess density, the water absorption test to measure porosity, and the clay lumps and friable particles test to evaluate cleanliness. These tests help ensure aggregates meet quality standards for construction projects and are often performed by technicians with knowledge of ASTM or AASHTO standards.

What jobs pay 500,000 a year in the US?

In the field of aggregate testing, high-paying roles such as senior geotechnical engineers, project managers, or laboratory directors can reach or exceed $500,000 annually, especially in large infrastructure projects or consulting firms. These positions typically require advanced degrees, extensive experience, and expertise in testing methods, quality control, and industry standards.

What is the difference between Aggregate Testing vs Concrete Testing?

Industry UsageConstruction, civil engineeringConstruction, civil engineering
PurposeAssess properties of aggregates like strength, durabilityAssess overall concrete quality, strength, and setting

Aggregate Testing focuses on evaluating the properties of aggregates used in construction, such as strength and durability. Concrete Testing assesses the quality and strength of the concrete mixture itself. Both are essential in construction but serve different roles in ensuring material performance and safety.
