Agent Banking information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Agent Banking professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Agent Banking professional, you need a solid understanding of banking operations, basic financial knowledge, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with digital banking platforms, mobile payment systems, and point-of-sale (POS) devices is typically required. Excellent customer service, trustworthiness, and strong interpersonal communication skills are crucial to building client relationships and resolving issues. These skills ensure agents can efficiently facilitate financial transactions, promote financial inclusion, and maintain the integrity of banking services in underserved areas.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an Agent Banking professional and how do they interact with customers and the central bank branch?

Agent Banking professionals typically manage financial transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, fund transfers, and bill payments for customers in areas where traditional bank branches may not be accessible. On a daily basis, they verify customer identities, handle cash or digital transactions, and provide basic banking information. They also serve as the primary liaison between customers and the central bank branch, ensuring that account issues or escalations are communicated and resolved efficiently. Regular reporting and compliance with regulatory standards are also key parts of the role.

What is agent banking?

Agent banking is a system where banks partner with third-party agents, such as retail shops or individuals, to provide basic banking services in areas where traditional bank branches are not available. These agents act on behalf of the bank to facilitate services like cash deposits, withdrawals, money transfers, bill payments, and account opening. Agent banking helps improve financial inclusion by bringing essential banking services closer to underserved or remote communities. This model is especially popular in countries with large rural populations and limited banking infrastructure.

What is the difference between Agent Banking vs Customer Service Representative?

AspectAgent BankingCustomer Service Representative
Required CredentialsBasic banking knowledge, sometimes certifications in financial servicesCustomer service skills, sometimes retail or banking certifications
Work EnvironmentFieldwork at various locations, often remote or mobileOffice or retail branch setting
Employer & Industry UsageFinancial institutions, banks, microfinanceBank branches, retail stores, call centers

Agent Banking and Customer Service Representatives both serve customers but differ mainly in work environment and scope. Agent Banking involves mobile or remote financial service delivery, while Customer Service Reps typically work within branches or call centers. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or service provider.

Job description

ISO & Agent Bank Account Executive

About MerchantE

MerchantE (an Omise/OPN company) provides acquiring and processing capabilities with modular APIs, advanced onboarding/KYB, network tokenization, risk/fraud controls, and reporting dashboards. Weโ€™re building out a modern ISO and Agent Bank program to expand distribution of our acquiring platform across FIs, referral partners, and independent sales organizations. Weโ€™re hiring an ISO & Agent Bank Account Executive to recruit, enable, and grow these partnerships at scale.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Prospect, recruit, and close new ISO and Agent Bank partners aligned with MerchantEโ€™s channel growth strategy.
  • Negotiate partner agreements, including revenue share, residual structures, and program terms.
  • Onboard and enable partner salesforces with training, certification, sales collateral, and partner portal access.
  • Drive joint GTM motions: co-selling, joint prospecting, marketing campaigns, and event participation.
  • Partner with internal teams (Product, Risk/Compliance, Legal, Operations) to ensure ISO/Agent onboarding meets sponsor bank and PCI requirements.
  • Manage ongoing partner relationships: pipeline reviews, residual reporting, quarterly business reviews, and issue resolution.
  • Build repeatable models and playbooks to scale ISO/Agent partner acquisition and activation.
  • Represent MerchantE at ISO/agent associations, bank partner events, ETA, WSAA, and regional trade shows.
  • Capture partner feedback to refine MerchantEโ€™s channel programs, partner tools, and reporting.

How Success Will Be Measured

  • New ISO/Agent Bank partners signed and activated.
  • Processing volume and revenue contribution from partner channel.
  • Partner productivity (merchant activations per ISO/Bank).
  • Residual revenue growth and partner retention.
  • Pipeline coverage and forecast accuracy.
  • Partner satisfaction (NPS, engagement levels, QBR outcomes).

Who You Are

  • 5โ€“8+ years sales/business development experience in payments, merchant acquiring, or channel partnerships.
  • Proven track record recruiting, enabling, and managing ISOs, agent banks, or referral partners.
  • Knowledge of acquiring economics, residual models, and ISO/Agent program structures.
  • Familiarity with compliance and risk considerations for ISO/Agent Bank programs (PCI, sponsor bank requirements, KYB).
  • Skilled negotiator with experience structuring complex revenue share or residual agreements.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills, with credibility at executive and partner salesforce levels.
  • Self-starter with outbound discipline, event presence, and ability to build scalable channel playbooks.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred (Business, Finance) or equivalent experience.

What Youโ€™ll Get (Why MerchantE)

  • Competitive base salary + uncapped commission with residual/accelerators
  • Benefits: health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
  • High-impact role shaping MerchantEโ€™s ISO & Agent Bank ecosystem
  • Collaborative culture with direct access to leadership, Product, and Risk teams
  • Professional growth in channel strategy, acquiring economics, and FI partnerships
  • Flexibility (remote or hybrid) and travel for partner events and industry shows

MerchantE is committed to creating a diverse work environment and we are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
