The Company:

ADEC’s services revolve around one mission: Empowering people with disabilities to live fulfilled lives in their communities. We serve more than 1,200 individuals each year through more than a dozen programs, ranging from music therapy for children to supervised group living for adults.


The Position:

The Lead Teacher Afterschool is responsible for planning goal-centered activities designed for children with disabilities. Staff will plan activities that will help children further develop mobility, social and interpersonal skills, academic skills, motor and perceptual skills, and communication skills. This position is located in Elkhart at the ADEC Resource Center. This could turn into a full time opportunity during Summer Camp. This could be a good opportunity for a college student, paraprofessional or special education teacher. This position is part time Monday-Friday 1:30-5:30pm.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating the Afterschool program.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with community resources.
  • Provide personal and medical care to children attending the Afterschool program.
  • Assist with waiver billing and other required documentation and paperwork.
  • Maintain proper communication with families and schools.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of teaching techniques, behavior management, and/or experience working with persons with severe disabilities is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience in using sign language preferred, especially for specific caseloads.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player. Ability to represent ADEC in a variety of public settings.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively with clients, staff, and community resources.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proof of car insurance
  • Pass background screening and negative drug test
