Afternoon Human Test Subject Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Provide support to JSC Medical Operations by providing medical expertise and knowledge for development of medical requirements, procedures, processes and supporting operations in Star City, Russia and/or Mission Control Center-Houston. Provide primary acute care for U.S. astronauts and their dependents and NASA personnel on deployment and their dependents in Star City, Russia and coordinate when required, with appropriate contract medical facilities in Moscow for medical services or medical evaluation. Provide regular support in the JSC Flight Medicine Clinic. Provide medical monitoring for U.S. astronaut testing, medical evaluation and hazardous activities training in Russia, and support training and procedures development in the U.S. Provide medical inputs to JSC colleagues to assure optimal development and implementation of astronaut medical training for the ISS program. Assist with crew medical officer training in Star City, Russia and in the U.S., as required.

Additional responsibilities may include supporting Commercial Crew Program operations, requirement development/integration for the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) Program and Human Landing System (HLS) Program, Gateway Program, as well as other tasks/projects assigned in support of Medical Operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide medical support to assigned ISS crewmembers. This will include:

a) Providing training support in Russia and in the U.S.

b) Assisting with training of crewmembers

c) Reviewing/Assisting with documentation for Expeditions (Flight Rules, IDRD's, etc)

d) Providing support to the development and verification of CHeCS procedures for Expedition crews

• Provide primary acute care for USOS astronauts and their dependents and NASA personnel and their dependents on deployment in Star City, Russia and coordinate, when required, with appropriate contract medical facilities in Moscow for medical support. Post office hours when deployed to Star City. Assist Star City NASA/Contractor personnel in obtaining support from western clinics in Moscow when the necessary support is outside the scope of the Star City clinic capabilities
• Monitor selected NASA astronaut crewmembers schedules, physical testing, medical evaluations, science data collection, and crew training sessions during potentially hazardous activities for the ISS program in Star City, Russia in the absence of a JSC flight surgeon. Keep JSC management, through the ISS Crew Surgeon, advised of flight crewmember health during training and testing for assigned ISS missions. Represent JSC Medical Operations on policies and requirements discussions in the absence of a NASA/JSC flight surgeon or when requested by NASA management. Coordinate and accompany astronauts during medical evacuation out of Russia or from a Soyuz landing site
• Monitor NASA astronaut crewmembers physical testing, medical evaluations, science data collection, and crew training sessions during potentially hazardous activities for the ISS program in The United States
• Responsible for maintaining the medical clinic and Advanced Life Support Packs in Star City, Russia; inventory, restock/resupply, and equipment checkout. Coordinate with the Training Section (Star City Logistics personnel) for resupply of clinic items, as necessary. Changes to the clinic inventory will be coordinated with the NASA medical lead for the ISS Program
• Point of contact for communications (not policy decisions) with Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) medical establishment.
• Exercise the Russian EMS/NCAP-SORK plan to ensure capabilities are present when required
• Train and complete certification for ISS Flight Surgeon Console support in MCC-H
• Provide medical information/knowledge/expertise to International Space Station Program (ISSP), Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) and Human Health and Performance Directorate (HH&P) boards (MIOCB, SA FACB, SMOCB, FRCB, etc)
• Conduct test subject physicals at the Human Test Subject Facility and provide medical monitoring of human participants in JSC sponsored studies in support of the JSC Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects

Minimum Qualifications:

• A degree in medicine (D.O. or M.D.) with a clinical Board certification or Board eligibility required.
• Experience with computer systems is important.
• Must be able to obtain a Texas medical license within 6 months of being hired.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Operational flight surgeon experience and/or an ACGME accredited Aerospace Medicine residency and/or Aerospace Medicine Board certification or
• Board eligibility are highly desired
• Knowledge of current operational activities involved in human space flight is highly desired.
• At least one year of clinical experience in aerospace medicine (military or civilian) is desired.
