Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District is looking for an amazing, fun, detail-oriented numbers person to be our next Assistant Treasurer/Accountant.


$32.00 - $38.00/hr

Overview:

The Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Treasurer/Accountant to join our front office team. This position supports the District's day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, budget reporting, financial recordkeeping, and audit preparation. The position works closely with the District Manager/Treasurer, external auditors, and contracted financial consultants to support the District's financial operations for accounting, auditing, and compliance matters.

This role is also an important part of the District's front office operations and will assist customers, process water payments, answer phones, and provide general administrative support as needed.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, customer-service oriented, and interested in developing their accounting and financial skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices, deposits, and related accounting transactions.
  • Assist with payroll processing, payroll reporting, W-2s, 1099s, and related filings.
  • Maintain financial records and assist with general ledger reconciliation and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial, payroll, expenditure, and budget reports for management and Board review.
  • Record and process irrigation assessments, water payments, and bank deposits.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and budget monitoring activities.
  • Assist with annual audits by maintaining organized records and providing supporting documentation to auditors.
  • Assist with tracking grants, capital assets, investments, and contract documentation as assigned.
  • Provide backup support for customer service, front counter transactions, and routine administrative functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience & Training: The ideal candidate will have an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and five years of professional level accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. (Note: Applicants with equivalent education and/or experience must provide a detailed explanation.)

Required:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug, credit, and background screenings.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately manage financial records and confidential information.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience supporting audits or working in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems.
  • Governmental accounting experience is helpful

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic accounting and financial reporting principles.
  • Budgeting, payroll, and recordkeeping practices.
  • Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for financial reporting, spreadsheets, and data analysis.
  • Office procedures and customer service practices.

Skill In:

  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Reconciling accounts and identifying discrepancies.
  • Prioritizing work and managing multiple assignments.
  • Working effectively with the public, coworkers, auditors, consultants, and management.
  • Maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment and involves prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and frequent interaction with customers, staff, consultants, and auditors. Sedentary work requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.

Equipment Used: Computers, accounting and business software applications, mobile devices, multi-line telephone systems, copiers, scanners, calculators, and other standard office equipment.

Physical Demands: Requires sitting for extended periods, operating standard office equipment, standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally, speaking, hearing, seeing, driving, mobility, climbing, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling and repetitive hand and finger movements associated with computer use.
