Position Overview

The Senior FPGA Design Engineer will architect, develop, simulate, integrate, and validate sophisticated FPGA designs using VHDL and Xilinx technologies.

The engineer will develop high-performance video and audio processing pipelines capable of supporting real-time 4K video, HDR processing, digital audio, high-speed interfaces, and embedded communications.

This position requires strong experience resolving timing, clock-domain, performance, and FPGA-to-hardware integration challenges. The successful candidate will perform laboratory validation and hardware bring-up while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and implement complex FPGA designs using VHDL and Xilinx devices.
  • Develop real-time video, audio, image-processing, and high-speed communications pipelines.
  • Design and integrate multi-clock-domain systems, AXI interfaces, memory controllers, and FPGA IP cores.
  • Optimize FPGA architectures for performance, reliability, resource utilization, and timing closure.
  • Conduct simulation, verification, synthesis, implementation, and design validation.
  • Perform laboratory debugging and hardware bring-up using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related test equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve FPGA, board-level, timing, signal-integrity, and system-integration issues.
  • Review hardware schematics and support FPGA-to-hardware integration.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, and test engineers throughout the product-development lifecycle.
  • Integrate internal and third-party FPGA intellectual property.
  • Develop reusable FPGA design practices, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Support products from initial architecture and development through qualification and production.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Eight or more years of FPGA design experience within aerospace, defense, embedded systems, video processing, or another high-performance digital hardware environment.
  • Advanced FPGA development experience using VHDL.
  • Extensive experience designing for Xilinx FPGA devices.
  • Strong proficiency with Xilinx Vivado and related FPGA development tools.
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as PCIe, DDR memory, Ethernet, HDMI, DisplayPort, DSI, GMSL, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience developing complex real-time video, image, or audio processing pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of multi-clock-domain design, clock-domain crossing, AXI interfaces, timing analysis, and timing closure.
  • Experience integrating FPGA IP cores and optimizing FPGA architecture and resource utilization.
  • Hands-on experience with FPGA simulation, verification, laboratory debugging, and hardware bring-up.
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Strong understanding of hardware schematics and FPGA-to-board integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with hardware and software engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Zynq or similar FPGA/processor SoC architectures.
  • Experience with 4K video, HDR, video compression or decompression, image processing, or audio DSP algorithms.
