Job Description:

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team and work on Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) implementations across enterprise web platforms. The role is focused on hands-on backend development, building and maintaining Java-based AEM solutions that are stable, scalable, and ready for production use. You will work across AEM services, integrations, content models, and Cloud Service deployments, while collaborating closely with frontend developers, architects, QA engineers, and product teams. The role requires strong AEM backend experience, good integration skills, and a practical approach to delivery and support.

Responsibilities:

AEM Backend Development

  • Develop, customise, and maintain AEM components, templates, workflows, Sling Models, and OSGi services
  • Build backend services and business logic using Java, Sling, and OSGi within standard AEM project structures
  • Work with AEM Core Components, Content Fragments, Experience Fragments, and Editable Templates
  • Develop workflows, launchers, and custom process steps where needed
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code

Integrations and Content Delivery

  • Build and maintain backend integrations between AEM and third-party enterprise systems using RESTful APIs and GraphQL
  • Implement and optimise content models, data layers, and Sling Models to support structured and headless content delivery
  • Work with frontend engineers to support integration between AEM backend services and SPA frameworks such as React or Angular
  • Help maintain a clear separation between content services, business logic, and presentation layers

AEM Cloud and Platform Support

  • Support AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) deployments, including Cloud Manager pipelines and release processes
  • Develop and maintain AEM Dispatcher configurations, caching rules, filter rules, and replication-related setup
  • Troubleshoot backend issues related to content rendering, replication, integrations, performance, and deployment
  • Contribute to AEM upgrades and migrations from legacy CMS platforms or on-premise AEM environments

Code Quality and Delivery

  • Take part in code reviews and code audits, providing practical feedback and clear follow-up actions
  • Contribute to refactoring and ongoing improvements across the backend codebase
  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and technical decision-making
  • Contribute to technical documentation, runbooks, and internal knowledge-sharing

Collaboration

  • Work closely with architects, frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and non-technical stakeholders
  • Explain technical decisions clearly and support delivery across cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on AEM backend development experience in enterprise environments
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Sling, and OSGi for AEM component and service development
  • Solid experience with AEM Core Components, Content Fragments, Experience Fragments, and Editable Templates
  • Hands-on experience with Sling Models, HTL (Sightly), and Adobe Granite APIs for server-side rendering and content resolution
  • Experience developing AEM workflows, launchers, and custom process steps
  • Strong working knowledge of AEM Dispatcher, including configuration, caching rules, filter rules, and related setup
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints within AEM
  • Good understanding of AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS), Cloud Manager pipelines, and deployment models
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in AEM delivery
  • Experience with JUnit and AEM Mocks for unit testing backend components
  • Working knowledge of Maven-based AEM project structure, including the AEM Project Archetype
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex backend issues
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AEM Edge Delivery Services (EDS) and document-based authoring patterns
  • Familiarity with headless AEM architecture and integration with SPA frameworks such as React or Angular
