Position Summary

EBI Consulting is seeking a senior-level leader to oversee our AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) service line, serving as the technical authority for projects including HUD-related work and construction monitoring deliverables. In this role, you will drive technical excellence, operational performance, and team development while ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, defensible work. You will lead day-to-day operations, manage project pipelines and resources, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and client outcomes. This position also plays a key role in developing staff, supporting recruiting and training initiatives, and partnering with business development teams to scope opportunities, engage with clients, and support growth. The ideal candidate is a strong technical expert and people leader who thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions and building high-performing teams.

This position reports to the Sr Technical Director and is designated as a hybrid-based position out of our Richmond, VA office. To be considered, candidates must already be established within commutable distance of Richmond, VA and comfortable with working in an office environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for AEC services, including HUD-related projects and construction monitoring deliverables, providing high-level guidance on complex or high-risk projects and ensuring consistency, accuracy, and quality across all deliverables.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve technical standards, report templates, best practices, and QA/QC processes across the service line.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and overall performance of the AEC division, including monitoring project pipeline, team capacity, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and timely project delivery.
  • Drive operational improvements to enhance productivity, turnaround time, and service quality, while partnering with Operations leadership on forecasting, staffing needs, and service delivery strategy.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop review and field staff through performance management, workload oversight, mentorship, and technical training, including supporting onboarding and ongoing professional development initiatives.
  • Support recruiting efforts by assisting in candidate identification, interviewing, and evaluation.
  • Partner with Sales to support scoping, pricing, and positioning of AEC services, and participate in client meetings, presentations, and relationship management as a senior technical representative.
  • Contribute to business growth by supporting service expansion initiatives and maintaining strong client confidence in technical deliverables and approach.
  • Perform project-based work as needed, including reviewing and revising technical reports such as Construction Monitoring Reports (CMRs), Construction Plan and Cost Reports (CPCRs), and similar deliverables, as well as providing direct project oversight and billable support.
  • Responsible for pricing and profitability/profitability improvement for all AEC related services
  • Responsible for completing direct billable work as well as the management on performance of AEC staff

Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Civil Engineering
  • 15+ years' experience in construction, construction monitoring, or construction consulting
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, program management, or operational oversight
  • Strong experience with HUD-related projects and AEC consulting services preferred
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent understanding of construction documents including plans, schedules, draw requests, contractor pay applications, lien waivers, and change orders
  • Strong understanding of both horizontal and vertical construction
  • Proven ability to lead teams, develop staff, and drive operational performance
  • Excellent technical report writing, communication, and leadership skills

The reasonable estimate of the salary range for this position is $115,000 - $150,000. The salary range describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position across applicable US locations. This position may also be eligible for a bonus whereby total compensation may exceed base salary depending on individual performance. The actual compensation offered will be based on a range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to; geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements, knowledge, skills/level, qualifications and budget.
