The Director of Enrichment will collaboratively set the vision for how enrichment programs realize our school’s whole child approach and mission to enable a diverse group of students to meet high expectations; develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; achieve deep understanding of complex subjects; and acquire a love of learning along with a strong sense of community and character. The Director of Enrichment will supervise a team of leaders that includes the Arts Director, Athletic Director, Director of Out of School Programs, Adventure Coordinator, and Garden Coordinator. The Director of Enrichment will report to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO); and partner with campus principals, the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Advancement and Advocacy Officer, Chief Inclusion Officer, Director of School Quality, the Chief Technology Officer, and the Head of Schools to realize the mission and goals of Capital City.

This is a 12-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The Director of Enrichment has responsibilities in the following key areas:

• Fostering a cohesive shared vision for enrichment programs. The vision for enrichment should be centered on challenging, engaging, including, and empowering students through rich opportunities provided during the school day and after school. The Director of Enrichment must continually work to engage all stakeholders in understanding and aligning their work to the vision.
• Providing strong supervision for program leads. The Director of Enrichment supervises a passionate and experienced team of program leads for Adventure, Arts, Athletics, Gardening, and Out of School Time. The Director of Enrichment will work with program leads to collaboratively set goals, plan and budget for programming, and engage leaders and staff in support of programs. The Director of Enrichment will support the growth of their team of leaders by providing ongoing professional development and coaching.   
• Serving as the primary leader during afternoon programming. A number of enrichment programs happen outside of regular school hours. To be fully engaged in both school-day and after-school activities, the Director of Enrichment will typically work a 10:00am-6:00pm schedule. The Director of Enrichment will serve as the primary site leader during after-school hours.  
• Leading Lower School summer programming. The Director of Enrichment will work with the Director of Out of School Time to offer a high-quality summer camp experience for families who qualify for child care subsidies and those who want to pay. 
• Establishing a strong program culture with equity at the core. Our Director of Enrichment must be a leader for equity and model culturally competent and inclusive collaboration, communication, and relationship-building through their actions and words. The Director of Enrichment must be proactive in making programs accessible to our diverse population, including Multilingual Learners and Students with Disabilities.  
• Ensuring high-quality programs and instruction. The Director of Enrichment must know what high-quality instruction looks like and be able to support the design of curriculum and programs that challenge, engage, and empower students. 
• Using data to improve programming. The Director of Enrichment will work to set measurable goals for programs and supervise the collection, review, and use of data to foster continuous improvement and address inequities. Qualitative as well as quantitative data should be collected across all three dimensions of student achievement (mastery of knowledge and skills, high-quality work, and student character). 
• Securing resources to support programs. The Director of Enrichment will work to ensure that programs have the necessary resources. The Director of Enrichment should identify and manage partnerships, opportunities, and grants (with support from the Director of Development & Outreach),that support programs. 
• Ensuring Strong Operations. There are many operational issues associated with running such a diverse set of programming. The Director of Enrichment will prioritize safety, strong communications, compliance, and organizational efficiency.  
• Promoting shared leadership and decision-making. Shared leadership is essential to the culture and success of Capital City. A Capital City senior leader must establish a trust conducive to shared leadership and believe that collaborative leadership with diverse stakeholders yields stronger results. 
• Engaging families in their children’s education. As the first parent-founded charter school in Washington, DC, family involvement is critical to the success of our students and program. Families are strong supporters of our enrichment programs. The Director of Enrichment should seek to creatively and proactively engage and seek the input of families and work closely with our school’s family engagement team. 

This position is ineligible for recurrent telework. Job duties are expected to take place in-person at Capital City.

Candidate Requirements

Capital City is committed to finding an innovative, compassionate, and philosophically aligned leader for this important position. Specific qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, Master’s preferred 
• Experience with arts and fitness/wellness programming and recognition of their value to students’ educational experience 
• Minimum of 5 years of successful working in schools and/or community-based organizations 
• Minimum of 2 years experience supervising and/or coaching instructional and program staff
• Strong adaptive leadership skills with the ability to plan strategically and operationalize plans 
• Experience leading in urban education serving students of color from low-income backgrounds
• Strong data analysis skills and experience using data for continuous improvement
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relational trust and productive working relationships across a wide variety of individuals and groups
• Spanish fluency strongly preferred (Capital City serves a population that is 59% Latinx)
