ACADEMY GENERAL - Guidance Counselor Job Classification Salaried Full-time (75-100%) Position summary Provides support services to students, staff, and parents. Support services include referrals, counseling, assessment, diagnostics, and report writing. This work takes place at the school site, in other public buildings, and in private residences. Additional responsibilities include student rostering/scheduling, maintaining individual student Education Plans, etc. Qualifications summary
  • Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree (preferred) in field of social services, including certification in school counseling
  • Training or certification in school counseling strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with school aged/high school students preferred.
  • Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

  • Provides direct support services to individual students, small groups, and classrooms.
  • Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families.
  • Oversees implementation of Andrews Academy testing program. Consults with other professional staff and outside agencies and other organizations.
  • Develops and maintains family outreach programs and community partnerships.
  • Serves as a member of the family support team/crisis management and other school-based teams.
  • Completes reports as required by Federal, State, and local agencies.
  • Conduct professional development workshop on identifying at-risk students.
  • Help students choose the best strategies for formulating future goals and preparing for either further education, or entry into the workforce.
  • Completes related tasks as needed or as requested by Principal.
Supervisory responsibilities Supervise Student Workers Qualifications Master's degree (preferred) in field of social services, including certification in school counseling Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing. Technical competencies Must demonstrate proficiency in office and educational software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and student information systems (RenWeb, PowerSchool, or FACTS). Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Google Classroom) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) is required. The Guidance Counselor must effectively utilize technology for data management, communication, scheduling, and academic record-keeping and demonstrate adaptability to new systems as needed.
