Job description

The Advanced Project Engineer would be main engineering point of contact for their assigned projects, coordinating between functional disciplines within Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, and Quality to ensure smooth operations and resolve technical issues. This customer-facing role is an exciting, dynamic, and fast-paced matrix position. This role prepares engineering proposal, defines, generates, and reviews project requirements documentation, monitors project to ensure work scope, schedule and budget are well defined and maintained, and provides coordination between resource managers/supervisors to ensure required program support and reviews/approvals are completed in a timely manner.
This role is also responsible for conducting project reviews during life cycle of development through production transfer. Performs technical studies to analyze and refine project requirements.
This is an ONSITE role in San Deigo, CA. No relocation offered.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in projects including Research & Development, new product development, redesign, and sustained production programs.
  • Manage an RF subsystem development effort with responsibility for all relevant technical disciplines including RF design, mechanical design, manufacturing, integration and test, and subsystem engineering.
  • Is proactive in seeking out and resolving integration issues among different engineering disciplines during the development process
  • Develop, build, and manage the integrated multi-function program team and represent both the interests of the customer and the business from a technical standpoint.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with the customer and other CAES departments
  • Work with program and engineering management teams to identify and mitigate risk during design process
  • Interface with Executive Staff and Program Management leadership on all aspects of design execution
  • Aid in development of project planning documents, including Integrated Master Schedules, Integration and Test Plans, Resource Plans, Capital Equipment Plans, and other documents.
  • Work closely with program management to adhere to schedule and budget and is accountable for the Profit and Loss.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Provide consistent and regular metrics to support Customer SDRLs and internal leadership
  • Maintain project schedule, provide inputs to project Estimation at Complete (EAC), report adherence to cost and schedule baselines for project. Provide input for the preparation of baseline change requests, variance reports, and manage resource requests.
  • Provide technical direction for team, lead trade studies, lead development of design reviews, and anomaly resolution teams. Work with program management and other Project Engineers to meet all project deliveries and to ensure delivered systems meet all customer requirements.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • At least 5 years of Project Engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of engineering or related experience in design and development.
  • Technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to solve complex professional tasks.
  • Negotiating skills, commercial proficiency, and conflict resolution.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software, or hardware that is controlled by US export law.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000- $138,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
