Job description

    SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center is currently seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in Huntsville, AL. At least 2 years of CMA experience is preferred. Experience in an orthopedic practice a plus.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Clinical Support:

      • Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures by preparing equipment, ensuring sterile environments, and providing instruments or supplies as needed.
      • Take and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate) and document findings accurately.
      • Prepare patients for examinations by collecting medical histories and explaining procedures.
      • Prepare and assist with diagnostic tests or procedures, including EKGs and other routine tests.
      • Provide basic patient care, such as wound care and assisting with mobility if needed.
    2. Administrative Support:

      • Manage patient flow, schedule appointments, and handle patient check-ins/check-outs.
      • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, including documenting procedures, test results, and patient interactions in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
      • Process patient billing information, including insurance verification and co-payment collection.
      • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and assist in managing patient referrals and authorizations.
      • Ensure all required forms, consents, and documents are completed and filed appropriately.
    3. Patient Education:

      • Educate patients about procedures, medications, and home care instructions under the direction of the healthcare provider.
      • Provide instructions on pre-procedure preparation or post-procedure care.
    4. Infection Control & Safety:

      • Maintain a clean and sterile environment in clinical areas.
      • Follow proper infection control procedures, including sanitizing equipment, using protective equipment, and disposing of medical waste.
      • Adhere to safety protocols and assist in maintaining a safe and organized clinical space.
    5. Team Collaboration:

      • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
      • Participate in team meetings and continuing education to stay updated on the latest medical procedures and standards.
      • Assist in training new medical assistants or administrative staff as needed.
    6. Compliance & Regulations:

      • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
      • Follow office and clinic policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of medical care and patient confidentiality.
