Position Overview

We are seeking a Construction Estimator to join our team in Irvine, CA. This role is responsible for reviewing project documents, preparing detailed cost estimates, performing quantity takeoffs, and developing accurate bid proposals for vapor intrusion mitigation projects.

The ideal candidate has construction estimating experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with vapor mitigation is a plus, but candidates with backgrounds in related construction fields such as waterproofing, foundations, environmental remediation, or below-grade construction are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans, specifications, environmental reports, and technical documents to develop accurate scopes of work
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for vapor barrier membranes, venting systems, sub-slab depressurization systems, sealants, penetration details, and related materials
  • Develop complete and accurate cost estimates and bid proposals within project deadlines
  • Analyze project requirements, site conditions, and construction documents to identify potential risks, scope gaps, and constructability concerns
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and material vendors
  • Build and maintain relationships with specialty subcontractors, suppliers, and manufacturers
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, environmental consultants, and internal teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements
  • Participate in bid reviews, scope reviews, and project handoff meetings
  • Maintain organized estimating files, including takeoffs, vendor quotes, assumptions, and bid documentation
  • Track historical project costs and unit pricing to improve estimating accuracy
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as needed
QualificationsRequired:
  • 3+ years of construction estimating experience or related estimating experience
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Proficiency with estimating and quantity takeoff software
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and project costs
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • Experience with vapor intrusion mitigation systems, including vapor barriers, venting systems, sub-slab depressurization systems, or sealants
  • Background in environmental remediation, waterproofing, foundations, concrete, below-grade construction, or similar specialty construction scopes
  • Experience estimating both new construction and existing building projects
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, ASTM standards, EPA guidance, or state environmental requirements
  • Existing relationships with specialty suppliers, manufacturers, or subcontractors
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office-based estimating work
  • Occasional visits to active construction sites, including uneven terrain and active work areas
  • Ability to review construction plans and material samples
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed
