What we Need:
The SES AI Hermes team is seeking an exceptional Battery Product Development Leader to specialize in customer-facing product development across electrochemistry, materials science, and next-generation battery platform design. This pivotal leadership role will integrate R&D, product requirements, and OEM customer needs to deliver validated battery component and system-level innovations. As a Product Development Leader, you will be responsible for translating complex battery concepts into manufacturable, customer-ready solutions and managing key relationships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Customer & Program Leadership
  • Lead key OEM customer programs and serve as the primary technical interface between the customer, R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams.
  • Develop and manage the technical roadmap for next-generation battery platforms, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and business strategy.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment to seamlessly integrate R&D outputs into manufacturable and scalable solutions.
  • Category (e.g., Model Optimization & Implementation)
  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to customer testing and validation, ensuring product quality and manufacturability.
  • Spearhead process and product optimization efforts, including DOE (Design of Experiments) design and comprehensive failure analysis to scale technology from the lab to prototype.
  • Apply deep expertise in electrochemical engineering, materials chemistry, and interfacial science to solve complex product development challenges.
  • Strategy & Execution
  • Translate next-generation battery concepts into clear, implementable, and manufacturable solutions suitable for mass production and client delivery.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Education: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Leadership Experience: Deep experience at a top management level or senior technical capacity in product platforms and leading OEM client projects.
  • Battery Domain Expertise: Strong background in electrochemical engineering, materials chemistry, and interfacial science within the context of next-generation battery platform development.
  • Technical Program Management: Proven experience in technical roadmapping, and managing the critical validation stages from lab โ†’ prototype โ†’ customer testing.
  • Problem Solving: Proficiency in technical problem-solving, including DOE design and failure analysis for scaling processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Profile: Previous experience as a Senior Product Manager or Technical Program Director at major battery manufacturers or automotive R&D centers.
  • Process Scaling: Specific experience in process and product optimization for high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • System-Level Integration: Experience integrating validated battery components into larger system-level innovations.
