This position is based in Irvine, CA, with the option for remote work within the US. (Remote work options in the US may be considered on a case-by-case basis and if approved by the Company.)The Experienced Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics, will provide support for Johnson & Johnson MedTech companies. The MedTech Quality and Compliance Advanced Analytics Team has three main objectives:
  • Designing and automating data pipelines to ensure consistency and reliability in data used for application and report development.
  • Improving accessibility and understanding of data analytics across all MedTech businesses.
  • Developing and implementing advanced analytics methodology and automation solutions to improve efficiency across MedTech Q&C.
The Experienced Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics role includes responsibilities for advanced analytics and data science application development. This position reports to Manager, Advanced Analytics and will be a part of the HMT Digital Solutions, Advanced Analytics Team, collaborating with a team of data scientists, engineers, statisticians, clinicians, etc. across the J&J MedTech sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with team members internal and external to the advanced analytics team to implement customer-centric solutions for data analytics and process improvements.
  • Participates and leads projects with varying timelines (e.g. hours to weeks) and complexities.
  • Develops, validates, and implements machine learning models to address business challenges and drive predictive insights.
  • Researches and explores the application of Generative AI solutions to enhance analytics capabilities and automate processes.
  • Designs processes and develops scripts (using R, Python, etc.) to perform and automate data analysis of large and complex datasets (e.g. data wrangling, NLP/text mining, statistical modeling, etc.).
  • Creates visualizations and presentations to provide insights into different types of data for technical and lay audiences.
  • Ensures data analysis and results are accurate and logically sound.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots scripts and algorithms for potential issues.
  • Identifies opportunities for optimization and recommends process improvements by anticipating customer needs.
  • Proposes implementation strategy for projects and data pipelines of moderate to high complexity.
  • Adopts new technology and best practices in the data science field to maintain progressive advantage in the industry.
  • Executes routine processes and responding to ad hoc requests in a highly regulated, fast-paced quality system environment.
  • Manages cross-functional, multi-level stakeholders and project requirements through effective communication.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Life Sciences, Quality Engineering, Health Informatics etc.) is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience is desired.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expertise in R, Python and SQL with experience in various data manipulation and analysis libraries.
  • Proven ability to analyze, clean and summarize large datasets using a scripting language is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required. Attention to detail is critical to the success of this role.
  • Professional application of Microsoft Office software (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote) is required.
  • Proven understanding of statistical and machine learning concepts is required.
  • Ability to prepare data analysis results for presentations and discussions (e.g. graphs, charts, slides, RMarkdown, etc.) is required.
  • Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is required.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and efficiently under limited supervision is required.
  • Experience in R package development is highly preferred.
  • Experience in software testing/validation is highly preferred.
  • Experience in managing databases and servers is desired.
  • Experience in project and stakeholder management is desired.
  • Quality System and Medical Device experience preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $92,000 - $148,350. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
