About Your Role:

As a Director, Data Science & Advanced Analytics at Dollar Tree's corporate office, you'll lead advanced analytics that inform key business strategies and investment decisions across our retail and merchandise portfolio. You will partner closely with senior leadership to analyze rich datasets-including store transactions, demographics, operational metrics, resource planning, media spending, and platform metrics-to build models that explain and forecast performance drivers. You will also help operationalize analytics capabilities through scalable processes and vendor partnerships, including collaboration with offshore analytics partners.

With over 9,000 retail locations, $20 billion in annual sales, and more than $1 billion in annual investments, this role has a significant opportunity to influence strategic decisions and drive meaningful business impact.

Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Advanced Analytics & Modeling

Lead development of statistical and predictive models to quantify the impact of investments and operational initiatives on store performance, profit, and growth
Drive the end-to-end analytics lifecycle: data sourcing, feature engineering, model development/validation, and impact measurement
Champion best practices in data quality, reproducibility, model governance, and documentation

Executive Insights & Decision Support

Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for senior business leaders with compelling storytelling and visualizations
Build dashboards and reporting frameworks to communicate portfolio performance and scenario forecasts to executive audiences

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner closely with finance, operations, real estate, merchandising, marketing, HR, and other cross-functional teams to frame business problems, establish KPIs, and align on analytical approaches

Vendor & Analytics Operating Model

Establish a collaborative operating model with external analytics vendors (e.g., partners in a low-cost/high-talent location), including specification of requirements, quality assurance, and delivery oversight

Business Impact

Models that materially improve forecasting accuracy and investment evaluation
Consistent, executive-grade insights that influence strategic decisions
Strong collaboration between internal teams and external analytics partners
Scalable analytics processes and tools that reduce time-to-insight and increase adoption

Your Required Skills and Experience:

Seasoned leader with 10+ years of relevant experience in data science, advanced analytics, or related quantitative role (finance, operations research, econometrics, etc.) with strong track record of modeling business outcomes
Master's Degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
Deep statistical knowledge and expertise with predictive modeling, regression, causal inference, time series, and other quantitative methods
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to non-technical senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives
Proficiency with SQL and at least one scripting language for analytics (Python, R, SAS)
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and dashboard delivery
Business Communication: Translate analytical insights clearly and convincingly for executive audiences
Strategic Thinking: Focus on business impact - not just technically correct analysis, but insight that drives value
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead discussions with finance, operations, technology, and vendor teams to execute analytics initiatives
Data Storytelling & Visualization: Craft compelling narratives supported by charts, models, and dashboards

Preferred Requirements:

Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Math, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
Prior experience working with large retail datasets and multi-dimensional performance metrics
Prior experience leading vendor/partner analytics engagements
Demonstrated leadership in analytics initiatives that influenced business strategy

Start Rate =$180,000-$200,000based on experience plus 25% target bonus and equity.
