Data Analytics Intern

Scope Of Intern Work: The Data Analytics Intern will assist with the process of collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data for the International Rescue Committee's New York program office. The intern will receive first-hand experience in database management, metrics development and evaluation, and dashboard design and implementation. The intern will have the opportunity to network with other interns and program teams to build their problem solving and collaboration capabilities. The intern will have the opportunity to identify an area of need and design a project that furthers their interests.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform data cleaning steps on large datasets.
  • Monitor data consistency issues, such as duplicate records, and communicate these issues to their supervisor.
  • Perform monthly refreshes on existing Power BI reports.
  • Respond to requests for data from program teams as appropriate.
  • Perform data analysis techniques using DAX, including calculating measures and performing joins.
  • Build new Power BI reports that reflect program needs when needed.
  • Design, build, and implement an intern-led project in the field of data analysis and visualization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain firsthand experience in data analytics in the public sector and how data can be used to scale social impact.
  • Enhance problem solving and communication capabilities by working individually and in team settings.
  • Develop leadership capability through the implementation of an intern-led project.

Location: Hybrid NY/Remote

Start Date: 05/15/2025

Duration: 12 weeks

Position Reports To: Data And Quality Assurance Coordinator

Knowledge of DAX, including fuzzy merges, calculated tables, and advanced measures is preferred. Knowledge of other Power Platform tools, such as Power Automate and Power Apps, is a plus but is not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A current graduate student (or having graduated within twelve months of the internship start date) in data science, business analytics, information systems, or a related degree.
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience (internship experience included) in data analysis, visualization, or a related field.
  • Passion for humanitarian or social impact work.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft data analysis tools, such as Power BI, Power Query, and Excel, is strongly preferred.
